The Tom Cruise-starrer, which was released in India on 27 July, had several references to Kashmir, some of which were removed or altered on the directions of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) before release. It is learnt that among other “misrepresentations”, the film showed a map which misrepresented J&K’s boundaries.

After 5 installments, you'd think Tom Cruise would have had enough of the series; but no, here's the sixth one! And if you thought the action scenes had reached the zenith level, well Cruise and team are in full mood to give the Fast & Furious series a fight for their money - be it jumping from high altitudes, fast paced car and bike chases or just twists and turns in the plots and sub-plots.

Once in a while you get these small budget, but absolutely brilliant movies in different genres. 1408 was such a gem of a movie in the Horror genre. Absolutely amazing horror construct without the generic sudden sounds and movement that generally fills up any horror movies.

Science Fiction (without any extra-terrestrial/aliens concept) is a genre that sees such breakthrough concepts that are attempted by large budget movies (e.g. Matrix, I Robot etc) as well as small budget movies (e.g. Ex Machina).

Upgrade (85% rating on RottenTomatoes) is another such classic example; with a budget of less than $5Mn, and literally unknown cast and basic setup; the movie forays into wearable-kind-of gadgetry that is believable and yet makes you give it a second thought on the possibility of such gadgetry in the near future, even after the movie is done.

Give it a watch; doubt it'll be available in theatres; so DVDs, rentals or torrents are your only choice.

I loved the last 2-3 mins in the hospital along with the background music. Reminded me of the awesome Flo Rida 'Right Round OST' on Hangover during the credits

I would actually say that of the first instalment of the franchise, MI-1. Nothing quite like it, and I remember watching it in the theater many many years back and feeling mind blown that that kind of technology, daredevilry and espionage could actually exist! MI-2 and MI-3 were both good, but thereafter, the shock values in each film gradually declined with each instalment.

That said, the latest flick is a nice watch with fast paced action and very few slow moments. Certainly worth a watch

Mission Impossible Fall out (4/5)

I have enjoyed all of these. The last one doesnt disappoint. A proper action film. It is all very far fetched, so it never gets you tensed up, on the edge of your seat type of action. But is is good clean unprententious action with a bit of humour thrown in. I like it.

I have seen some of the comments and it really surprises me. Everything in this movie is completely made up. From the technology to the chases, why would anybody expect an accurate depiction of anything? It is completely fiction,

Obviously, these days any movie that shows old men tearing around in old cars gets my vote!!

Ocean 8 (3/5)

I did enjoy watching it, but I did find it less enticing than the earlier versions. The plot remains the same. A big impossible heist pulled off by a handfull of very unlikely "specialists". And of course, there is always the main character getting even with somebody as a sub plot.

I thought it was all a little bit to predicatable, but still ok.

Agreed it's an amazing movie!! 9/10 for me. But I was quite confused by the ending. Except for the ending it would have been 10/10.

It's been an interesting week - got to see a mix of movies

A Quiet Place : 4 / 5

Science-fiction + horror + alien is a genre that has been well entrenched through the decades, however, it's still under-penetrated genre if you ask me. It's all upto how creative the writers become, and how well the modern graphics are utilized. A few of them have had significant commercial success; for e.g. the highly popular Cloverfield was one that made heads turn; 10 Cloverfield Lane was another that followed a similar but completely different construct.

A Quiet Place is somewhat in that space; however the beauty of the movie is the literally what the name of the movie means. No sounds. Nil. The actors had to learn sign language to act in this movie!!!

Without revealing more, I'd say this is a good, short and fast-paced 90 mins movie done with an extremely short cast; a small town and a new alien concept that is innovative and yet simple. Emily Blunt and hubby John Krasinski do a fair job; but it's the aliens that steal the show

Annihilation : 3 / 5

In a setup that seems eerily similar to Amy Adam's Arrival, this is another science-fiction + horror + alien genre that tries to dazzle you more with the colors and sights than the horror part.

Natalie Portman does a decent job; however this isn't one of her better movies. Watch it on a large screen for the beautiful colors that come up towards the second half of the movie; clearly (like Arrival) this is made to be watched in an IMAX kind-of setup.

Think goofy-ness of school / college games; and wonder how it'll be if adults continue playing the game. That's what this movie is all about; supposedly based on a true story of a group of fellas who have been playing this game for 23 years.

The movie starts out well as each friend is looped back into the game from his daily life; but then loses the plot in un-necessary elongated "competition" rounds between the protagonist (Jeremy Renner) and the rest. With an amazing cast, it's a pity they aren't utilized in the best possible manner.

The best part of the movie is the last 2-3 mins in the hospital along with some amazing background music as the credits roll-on.
