Fantastic beasts and where to find them
The movie was a drag and unnecessarily linked to the Harry Potter series, probably in an attempt to ensure audiences. In some sequences I thought I was watching a cartoon film with the amount of animation and weird beasts. The end has a twist to make room for more to come in the series.

+1 for Arrival.

Hard sci-fi is making a comeback and I'm glad that it's here. Excellent cinematography.

The Nice Guys

Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling make this one worth a watch
I rate it a 3.5/5

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Saw Prisoners last night.

It is a murder mystery/drama.

Brilliant movie; both Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal have delivered a stunning performance.

I am mighty impressed with Gyllenhaal, some of his recent movies (Nightcrawler for instance) show how capable he is; and what an under rated actor he is.

Saw Arrival - 4/5.

Since I am in Sweden, the heptapods were talking in Swedish(subtitles) , I missed the important part, though I could make out a little what they said.

Anyone else found the movie to be bit draggy, like Gravity.

There are lot of easter eggs throughout the movie, worth watching it another time.

If I had the knowledge like the heroine of the movie, for me, the life will be boring. Its better the way it is now, don't you think so?

Sully: Very good edge of the seat kinda movie on the water landing of a airbus in manhattan. Its scary and also reveals the intensity of tom hanks. Its a must watch.
4/5

The whole truth: Keaneu reeves starrs as a lawyer fighting a case of a juvenile who killed his father. Its good and keeps a good pace throughout. Lazy watch for a day when you dont know what to see.
3/5 just average

Caught up with 'Captain Fantastic' last Sunday. Viggo Mortensen gives yet another stupendous performance in this rather thought provoking movie that entertains and makes you teary eyed as well. Here is The Guardian's review ...

Also watched "Hell or High Water" the previous night. This one is a curious mix of a western, a heist thriller and a reflection of American socioeconomic scenario. A very well made and well acted movie with a Rottentomatoes rating of 98%.

Hell or High Water was a good watch indeed. Simplest of stories, good acting and what do you know the movie is over

The Hateful Eight
Typical Tarantino movie with witty dialogues and situations. Builds up slowly and adds enough mystery to keep you engrossed.
The soundtrack was amazing as well
If you are a Tarantino fan, you wont be disappointed.

Memories of Murder
This is a Korean movie, a serial killer murder mystery based on true events. The plot is similar film Zodiac.
There are very few movies that leave a big impact for long time, this is one such movie.

Korean cinema in the last decade has produced quite a few gems like the one you mentioned. If you have not already, then check out 'Chaser', 'Mother' and period films such as 'king and the clown', 'war of the arrows' and 'face reader'

Yes, great cinematography and the story took off very early and straight to the point which I liked.. it was a smooth flowing story until the 60 mins mark, then it quickly goes downhill. I'm not a fan of Amy Adams usually but here she did justice to the role, the story though got very, very draggy towards the end. I also hate that they use a twist just for the sake of it (which I can't discuss here but suffice to say it forms the core of the movie). Many of the logical aspects have massive holes in it which are left unexplained and no, I don't take the movie for what it is, I never will.

2/5, just for the initial portion, otherwise its a perfect 0.

Movie: Hell or High Water

There is really something special about movies set in Texas. The country music, oilfields, horses, cowboy hats, southern accent and much more.

Its a nicely done movie with great characters, interesting plot, good visuals and cool songs that keeps you occupied through the movie time. Never felt bored and the pacing was fast.
