Oh yes, I love this movie! Brilliant acting by Ryan Gosling and of course Walter White - though he has a small part. And the OST is just awesome. I fell in love with the character of Carey Mulligan after watching this movie. A cult movie indeed.

The opening credit song is soul stirring. I specifically did a sortie to NICE road this evening, listening to it on repeat on my earset. It's one of those tracks that goes with anything on wheels, amidst the perfect evening. Made me feel really good!

For those wanting to know which song it is, here it is :

Tell me, be honest.. How many of you who have watched Donnie Darko and understood what just happened?? I'm sure its a wonderful movie but also way above my levels of comprehension. I saw a few web sites which explain what happened in the movie but still not a clue.

My take on the few movies I watched last weekend :
1. Arietty - 3/5
Animated version of "The Borrowers", but not as comic or thrilling.

2. Mr. & Mrs. Iyer - 3/5
An Indian movie that is primarily in English with snatches of Hindi, Bengali, Urdu and Tamil mixed in. Very nice acting by the leaf pair. Konkana sen's costumes and expressions being out the hard work and attention to detail put into the making of the movie.

3. Devil's Advocate - 1/5
An unclear storyline renders Al Pacino's superb acting useless. Charlize Therone is extremely desirable in the first half.

4. The Hit - 1/5
Not at all noteworthy. Had high expectations of this one but the plot lost its logic through the course of the movie. No stand out performances.

5. Good Will Hunting - 4/5
A really good watch. Robin Williams and Matt Damon give amazing performances. The support cast bolsters the story to give it an authentic, real life, feel. Enjoyed the story and it's portrayal of emotions.

This is the end - 1/5
Concept was stale, storyline weak and humor non existent. Below par with respect to expectations.

Saw Birdman last night.
Amazing movie and the way it is made. Story is something many may relate too if you have faced your share of mid-life crises
This morning it won a few good oscars, including best film!

Oscar 2015 top winners:

Best Movie: BIRDMAN
Best Actor: Eddie Redmayne
Best Actress: Julianne Moore
Best Animated Movie: BIG HERO 6
Best Director: Alejandro G. Ińįrritu (BIRDMAN)

GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL took a total of 5 Oscars home.

Haha... :uncontrol

I can just imagine. This movie had me on the ropes for a long time - but it is a great movie and makes for equally great conversation over dinner / drinks!

And go through all the pages. Helped me greatly - not JUST to understand - but to form my opinion as to what happens in the movie.

I had the same experience in Mulholland Drive. Just could not fathom what happened.

I was so badly scarred that I haven't even attempted to watch Inception fearing the same outcome :)

Contrary to opinions here, I though Gone Girl was good :) Is an 8/10 for me. Not extraordinary to make an impact on my twisted movie favorites, Incendies still sits at the top of the list.

Guardians of the Galaxy 6/10

Predestination 8/10

Man From Earth 9/10

Haven't seen Mulholland Drive, but David Lynch movies are like that. They are not for everyone. His Elephant Man was a straightforward biographical movie though.

In comparison, Nolan doesn't challenge the viewer that much. Neither Memento nor Inception are made that way.

One movie that made me 'see stars' was Anurag Kashyap's No Smoking. Imagine I went to this movie with my fianceč, now 7 years since we still talk about our 'No Smoking' experience no matter how many movies we've since :uncontrol

Kingsman: The Secret Service : 9/10

Cool entertainment. Refreshing take on spy movies.

More like 007 meets Kick Ass lol. Matthew Vaughan is on a roll!

Anyone watched FOCUS movie? I like Will Smith's movies and just wanted to check on the comedy quotient.

Some of them are downright brilliant! :)

Birdman - 0/5

Is there a way to give negative ratings. Then I would have given this movie a negative number. What a BORE. Sheesh. I mean, seriously. And this is coming from a guy who loves slow, dramatic movies. I just couldn't see what the fuss was about. Pathetic acting - he did not do justice to the role at all. Maybe someone else could have played it better. Shucks, what a waste of Edward Norton. I felt like burning my home theater after watching the movie.

Black Swan by Darren Aronofsky was slightly along the same lines and I liked that. This one was a yuck. Yuck.

Movies lined up for this week. All cherry picked.

A walk among the tombstones
Whiplash
Beyond the lights
Lucy
The Judge
Serena
The best of me

There's this French movie called Amelie. I have seen it a lot of times, and yet I don't get bored of seeing it again. It's incredibly refreshing every time I see it. The narration is mind blowing and so is the acting by the lead actress. Such innocence!
Fantastic storyline and very finely directed.

My favourite part about this movie was the OST. Beautiful French Accordion music by Yann Tiersen. All the tracks are scintillating, and have a charm of their own. All instrumentals. The tracks of the Hindi movie Barfi! were heavily inspired by the tracks of this movie.

It's a movie which is a breath of fresh air. Different, interesting and captivating. Must watch.
