Finally saw "The Man form Earth" over the weekend. Thanks for the recommendation. I won't give it a 5/5 - more like 4/5, primarily becoz even though it is a low budget movie the main lead was just not convincing enough for me as a 14,000 year old person! They should have chosen a better actor. Otherwise a brilliant movie and so refreshing to see something so simply made and yet be so captivating in today's age.

The plot is very good, the concept is good too, but somehow I felt that the director was in a hurry to wrap up things near the end.....
I had such high expectations from Prometheus, especially since it came from Ridley Scott but was severely disappointed. It just seems another vain attempt to milk a successful franchise. Loose plot, way too many loopholes, uncertain ending and crappy acting by most of the protagonists.

The trend of post apocalyptic life on earth seems to be dragging on. After Hunger Games and Divergent, I didn't find anything new or different. Mediocre acting, unoriginal creatures and high levels of predictability punctuate this franchise which, like the others, has more movies to come. Can watch when there is nothing else.
Oh was so predictable! I started yawning towards the middle of the movie itself.

Locke - wanted to watch it but haven't got a copy yet. Not on Netflix either. Read good reviews of the movie.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Did a movie marathon last week!

1. Lucy 3/5 - nice concept, that's it.
2. Maze runner 2/5 - Can give it a miss, feels like a teen movie (I never trust IMDb rating, but I thought 7/10 would certainly worth a watch..)
3. Equalizer (in theater) 2.5/5 - Certainly a Steven Seagal movie played by Denzel
4. London to Brighton (3.5/5) - good one, predictable towards the end..

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched "Hobbit: The Battle of the five armies" this weekend. Would recommend refreshing yourself with the earlier two films of this trilogy to get a hang on this one. As obvious from the title, the entire film has only battles and battles. Will not rate it more than two stars (one of which is for IMAX experience

P.S.: Also watched "22 Jump Street", sequel to the "21 Jump Street". Nice one time watch. Don't miss the credits section in the end.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

All-time favourites:
Man from Earth (shoe-string budget indie with a million dollar script)
K-Pax (borders the line between sci-fi & psychological drama)
Cloud Atlas (Epic)
Freddy got Fingered (surreal comedy, but definitely not for everyone)
Happiness (off-beat dramedy)
Waking Life (unique animation; thought-orgy of sorts)
Yes Men fix the World (documentary waving a giant middle-finger to corporations)
Back to the Future Trilogy (super fun movie for your inner child + iconic DeLorean)

Recently watched
:
Gone Girl (8/10)
Predestination (8/10)
Coherence (7/10)
I Origins (8/10)

Agreed. It was an intriguing movie.

But even after applying all Time Travelling logic, I was not able to reach a conclusion. Left me totally confused. I should watch this movie once more.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Saw The Grand Budapest Hotel

Finished the movie, only because I started it and the fact that it was rated so highly so I kept on waiting for the "wow" moments to arrive but they didn't. It was a terrible let down and waste of a Saturday evening.

Rating - 4/10

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watch Gone Girl over the weekend.
The story is shocking to say the least.
However I really didn't agree with how the director ended the film.
It is a good movie though worth the 2.5 hours of reel time.
My rating 4/5

+1

The ending was weird, like he ran out of budget. Till then I'd rate it 3.5/5; the ending I'll rate 1/5.
