Saving Private Ryan

The story is based in WW 2 era, its a story about a team formed to find & return a guy who is deployed somewhere in the war. The reason is that 3 of his brother's have already died in the war & the army wants to save the now lone kid of the mother of four.

Took me a long time to watch this one but as they say better later than never. Brilliant performances & storyline. The beginning scenes could be a bit gory for the soft hearted.

Saving Private Ryan is one of my all time favorites and I can watch it any number of times. Amazing acting by Tom Hanks. It is a bit lengthy (for those who don't like long movies:)) but awesome movie overall.

I was one of the millions who was crushed when it lost the Oscar Best Picture award to that stupid Shakespeare in Love. The word was, the jury didn't want to reward yet another war movie. Last few Oscars had gone to Schindler's List, Forrest Gump, The English Patient and Braveheart.

That was one heck of a movie. It twisted my mind completely and hit me right in the solar plexus:D

I am told there is another such movie called "Case 39". It's there on my queue but, is on wait list from last one week

Don't want to spoil it for you. Let's just say, I liked the ending of both the movies (The Orphanage and Dark Water).

Case 39 -> Need to see that one. Thanks!

Watched:

The Beaver

Film deals with the story of a depressed man (Mel Gibson) who finds an alter ego in * a very surprising creature*

Not so popular on blu-ray but is definitely worth a watch.

4/5

Matchstick Men

Nicholas cage is an amazing con artist with a lot of retirement funds. He & his partner plan one last heist ...

Again, underrated, but a brilliant performance by Nicholas Cage & Ms.Angela.

4.5/5

Watched it, it's boring. Renee Zellweger looks surprisingly beautiful in this. Never liked that woman, she has a ugly face.

I beg to disagree. VD definetly has a booming voice but, its more guttural than baritone

JS, I find it husky and whisperish.

Popular voices, maybe yes. But, definetly not striking

Agree, she is blessed with an average face. But, loved her since Bridget Jones Diary and Jerry Mcguire

Case 39? Boring? My, my. I only saw good reviews. Let me check it out as soon as its available

All these are popular stars so obviously, their voices are most recognizable. But, striking voice. No, IMHO

I agree on George Clooney. He's got a good voice and can go into my TOP 10 list for sure.

P.S: All above is just my opinion and dont want to disrespect any of your opinions. Let's hope we all agree to disagree)

@Saildrive, thats the entire bunch of popular hollywood stars. Are you saying all of them have good voices? In my opinion, NO ! Only a few I can partly agree like Kevin Bacon and Rock. That's about it

I reckon we are confusing most popular voices with most striking voice. There is a difference. Striking voice makes an impression on you when they recite say a "monologue" unlike others. To make a comparison, in Hindi, the following guys have the most striking voice in bollywood:-

AB
Amrish Puri
Danny Denzoppa

Can list out quite a few but, dont want to dilute the English thread

Although I am his biggest fan, If you have seen For a few dollars more / The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Clint was totally overshadowed by Lee Van Clef (the "Bad" in the movie) in the voice department. John Wayne used to have quite a muscular voice among yesteryear heroes (I think he is best known for his voice only)

Back home we have the likes of Pran and Amrish Puri who rule the roost. I cannot think of any of our mainstream "heroes" who can be added to the list though.

A good list, but Douglas? For me its gotta be:Most unique / identifiable voices ties up between:

Arnold - I'm a cybernetic organisam. Well there's no questioning that.
Sly Stallone - (From the Jay Leno show) so Stallone might give a speech at the Oscars this year. The Academy has decided to hire a translator.

I love Star Wars, but I never understood how Anakin gets his behind kicked and then turns into an African American dude. :D

Ok movie review time. After a long long time, watched "Bedazzled" last night.

That Liz Hurley is just sooooo HOTTTTTTTTTT. Stupid Elliot (Brendan Fraser). If I had 7 wishes, I would have asked "for her" 7 times. A cute comedy and good time pass.

Rating - 3.5/5

Next in line - "The Platoon". Heard great things about this one. Hope it does not dissapoint.

I am pretty sure there must be quite a few of us who collect the DVDs. There must be a few that have VHS tapes of fav movies! I suspect the team would have the biggest collection of movies of all genre. There must be more than a few that have more than 20k movies in their personal library! Just a wild, conservative guess! :D
