Need suggestions on good Blu-ray worthy Movies, thanks

Copying from a list of recs I posted in horror.com -

Wall-E - Quite possibly one of THE best Blu-Ray/HD experiences one will ever get to see. The post-apocalyptic environments, the gorgeous long sweeping shots, the huge spaceship, coupled with a rollicking soundtrack (which sounds sweet on a 7.1 sound system), makes Wall-E an experience to behold.

Star Trek - This film is meant to be seen in a widescreen theatre, or on BD. Trust me. The superb stunning landscape and space sequences and the awesome sound effects will take your breath away.

2001: A Space Odyssey - See above.

Avatar - See above.

The Dark Knight - See above.

Sin City - See above.

Casino Royale - It looks very crisp. Specially the title sequence alone will make you gape.

Quantum of Solace - See above.

Corpse Bride - Yet another exhilarating HD experience, much like Wall-E. These latest animated films are the best to have hit BD yet.

Alice in Wonderland - See above.

Coraline - See above.

9 - See above.

Speed Racer - The film might have tanked and got panned by the critics, but there's no denying the fact that Speed Racer is one of the most visually stunning films ever made. The Wachowskis made some really fantastic use of color throughout the movie and it shows! You will never forget this BD once you have finished watching it. As far as the film goes, the races are the high points. There is a short sequence of flying through the city which looks great as well.

The Cell - Tarsem Singh's visual journey of brilliance is a MUST to be seen on BD. Jaw-dropping visuals, and what use of colors!

The Fall - See above.

and now for some horror...

Survival of the Dead - Romero's latest offering is a visual treat on BD. Remember to watch it in full 1080.

The Burrowers - Quite literally will sweep you off your feet with its fantastic western landscape shots and night photography.

The Crazies - As realistic as can be. Visuals are crisp and the sound is out of the world. If ever there was another reason to watch this remake, this is it. On BD.

Zombieland - See above.

Rec & Rec 2 - The whole experience of both movies gets very atmospheric and scary once it kicks in on BD. The sound and visual effects will make you bite your nails as hard as you would in an IMAX theater.

Other recs -

300
Spider - Man 2
The Lord of the Rings trio
The Matrix trio
The Fifth Element
District 9
Iron Man

Watched a Couple of Movies

Saving Private Ryan

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-spr.jpeg

The story is based in WW 2 era, its a story about a team formed to find & return a guy who is deployed somewhere in the war. The reason is that 3 of his brother's have already died in the war & the army wants to save the now lone kid of the mother of four.

Took me a long time to watch this one but as they say better later than never. Brilliant performances & storyline. The beginning scenes could be a bit gory for the soft hearted.

4.5/5

The Green Mile

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-gm.jpeg

Another brilliant movie by Tom Hanks where he plays a jailer to E-Block where prisoners with capital punishment are sent. Tom finds out that one of his prisoners has some magical powers. The story is about his management of the block where he faces tough criminals, a bad official with lot of influence & the special prisoner.

Great narration & performances by all.

4.5/5

The Mechanic

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-tm.jpg

Jason Stathom is back, this time he is a contract killer who is known for his clean/natural looking kills. He is forced to kill his mentor under wrong pretext. He tries to set his mentor's kid by teaching him some of his trade secrets. Things start to change when he realizes that he was used as part of conspiracy if that wasnt enough the kid learns that it was Jason who killed his father.

A good one time watch for any action fan.

3/5

Also watched Avatar & The Dark Knight in BD & loved it, Will check out some of the suggestions made here, thanks guys :)

Saving Private Ryan is one of my all time favorites and I can watch it any number of times. Amazing acting by Tom Hanks. It is a bit lengthy (for those who don't like long movies:)) but awesome movie overall.

5/5 from me

Haven't watched Green Mile yet. It's on my list of to-see movies

P.S: Next in line is " Dark Water" starring Jennifer O'Connely. Its supposed to be a engrossing thriller.

Watched this movie. It was dark, brooding and has a terrific aura to the whole movie and would be liked by all thrillers and semi-horror fans.

As said, the ending is a nice surprise but, wasnt that surprising as it was in "The Orphanage" but, creepy enough to satisfy the horror hunger.

The little girl was too sweet:thumbs up

jennifer connelly, sir!
Simmeringly hot, in every movie.
and in most nice ones, she has a very strong backboned character.
hulk, beautiful mind, dark city, blood diamond.....awesome!
Its cos of her that i liked hulk better than the incredible hulk, inspite of the "true to the book" portrayal of hulk's visual.

Watch a young Jennifer Connelly in Once upon a time in America starring Robert DeNiro and James Woods. There is a dance scene with beautiful composition. Absolutely lovely!

Once upon a time in America, now that is some movie! One of my all time fav, and one of the best movies ever made. its a bit long but every second is worth it!

Rise of the Planet of Apes

Starrring James Franco, Freida Pinto, Jon voight

The start of the movie was good but in the middle staryed a bit when ames Franco gets an young chimp home and starts to rear it. But the end was not so good. All the genetically modified apes then head to the forest and thats the end.

Rating: 3.5/5 (purely for James Franco)

Absolutely!

I have the collector's edition and make sure I watch it every now and then.

And more than every now and then, I watch that particular scene:p Its divine.

Saw "Mirrors" starring Keifer Sutherland. Its a story about a bunch of mirrors at an upmarket departmental store which hold a dark secret (a demon) and Keifer's attempt to save his family from death.

Very very average movie. You can almost see the next seemingly terrifying bit coming up. The only saving grace in this movie is Sutherland. What a voice.

Rating - 2.5/5

+1. She is one of my favourite Hollywood actresses. Another movie worth watching is House of Sand an Fog. Great performance by Jennifer Connelly and Ben Kingsley.
