Denzel Washington stars in this gripping, edge-of-your-seats movie which deals with a terrorist attack on a ferry. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (MI fame), the movie is laden with action sequences which are nicely done. Denzel stars as Doug working for the ATF (firearms and explosives) department who sets to unravel the plot behind the explosion.

The movie in itself banks on the concept of time travel, which seems too far-fetched and unnatural. Good performances from the cast and slick action make it worth a watch.

I saw another flick of Denzel Washington when I was in the US--it's about kidnapping a Mexican girl 'Pita'. Don't remember the name though.
I saw a complete copy of that flick with my kids starring A.B. So I hunted down for that DVD and showed it to my kids, and they said the original was far, far better.

The Wrestler (2008)

The movie is about a Wrestler. He is going old and this is the only job he knows. His daughter hates him. His wife is not around. His only friend is a striper. He gets a heart attack so cannot wrestle anymore. Becomes a salesman at a shopping centre. Tries to maintain a cool air about him, but is very unhappy with life.
Shows you the inside story of wrestling. How injuries are faked and the show orchestrated. However as he himself shows some injuries are bound to happen.

Finally he can take it no more, so returns to the arena.
We are left wondering if this is going to be his last fight.

Its an ok movie. Got nominated to the Oscars. I can only wonder how. But then again when Slumdog can win an Oscar, this can get nominated as well

That must be Man on Fire, with Marc Antony(girl's father) & Dacota Fanning(little girl)

Its another Brilliant movie of Denzel

All you fans of animation go watch Monsters v. Aliens. Well made, stunning CG with reference to level of detail, simple uncomplicated storyline, full of laughs.

Simplistic on one level - keeps the kids and adults happy
Plenty of sub-text - keeps some adults happy.

As for me, I love animation especially one that makes me laugh with cleverly designed characters and quirky lines.

Requiem for a Dream - Requiem for a Dream (2000)

Little Miss Sunshine Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

Das Boot Das Boot (1981)

Sling Blade Sling Blade (1996)

Full Metal Jacket Full Metal Jacket (1987)

Donnie Darko Donnie Darko (2001)

The Big Lebowski The Big Lebowski (1998)

Care to elaborate how this moral fits into this movie?:)

A girl is kidnapped and her relatives bring the hero in to help them find the gal. The gal is kidnapped coz of the girl's mom's love for drugs etc. In the end, we think the mother has changed her life style but no! Loved the hero's look at the end: I am a dumbo.

Moral: You cant straighten dog's tail by putting in a hose pipe !

I can never forgive the director for the climax.
He should have used an alternate ending(if there was one).

I felt the same too.

Watched The Shining last night. Starring Jack Nicholson and directed by Stanely Kubric, this is one of the best suspense/horror flicks I have seen. Ranks as high as Hitchcock's Psycho in my personal list.

Watched " Quantum of Solace" last night.

Daniele Craig is turning out to be quite a bond. He is the most atheletic, energetic and quick on his feet Bond and the most stunning blue eyes you can find on this side of Atlantic ( other side being Mel Gibson, Paul Newman and John Travolta). Maybe his facial expression is a bit wooden for my liking. I liked the michevious quirk in the eyes of previous bonds.

Breathtaking action and some stunning photography makes this edition of Bond a very watchable movie.

I just couldnt help but compare this movie with F&F-4 in some of the car chase scenes. The photography here is so much superior unlike the shoddy work in F&F-4 where the camera is awfully shaky.

Daniele Craig movies now remind me of Bourne Identity series. So much similarity of locations, style of direction and photography. Quite Watchable.

I am slowly but steadily becoming a fan of DC:)

4/5

Watched Mira Nair's Little Zizou.
Brilliant movie, very well made with a cast of some of the best actors ever.

If you have lived in Mumbai with Parsi friends it takes the enjoyment to another level.

All these mentions of Denzel Washington starrers and no mention of Training Day?

I absolutely loved that movie. The twists in the movie were so good. Denzel does justice to all the roles he plays :thumbs up

Except in American Gangster. He seemed very restrained in that role.
