agree: Its an awesome movie. Best part is when it was released they called it worst horror flick and now people consider it as one of the best.

Just saw Law Abiding Citizen, a very good thriller. I would rate it 4/5 for a very different story, and for showing the flaws in the Justice system.

Another Amazing performance by Russel Crowe and surprising performance by Guy Pearce (of Memento fame) .
I felt Pearce's acting was on par or even better than Crowe.
not to mention the slick and totally cool cop kevin spacey.
its all about corruption and conspiracy.

The Punisher-
Story of a guy who is an ex cop avenging his whole family's murder by a mafia don. It is a good timpass flick though such stories are in many films.

The men who stare at Goats: Dark Humor, good starcast, and a decent premise. About a special unit of the army ("New Earth Army") created by Bill (Jeff Bridges) which utilises "superpowers" of the constituents. Hilarious at times, brooding at others, and really slow at still others. Worth a watch, but some might not appreciate it since there are not too many real chuckle or guffaw moments. Also starring Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and George Clooney. 3/5

@Technocrat, thanks for the result details. When you run through it, it makes so much senseclap:. For example, i would have been disappointed if Avatar got best picture award...because it deserved in other categories and thats exactly what happened.

I was briefly watching the telecast of Filmfare awards last evening on TV.

SRK and Saif looked like couple of fools and their antics was lame so was there hosting. It was pathetic to say the least.

Btw, when is Grammy Awards screened today? Which Channel?

Yes if Hollywood == Bolly then all awards would have gone to Avatar(ala 3 idiots). No wonder even seasoned actors get emotional on getting an Oscar, heck some of them get emotional even at nomination.

Oh Grammy is today? Gotta check out :)

Techno, IMO the Academy awards are often not the best way of knowing whether the movie really deserves all the acclaim but many times they do get it right as well and not just going by the "popularity" of a movie or its stars.

Saw a couple of foreign films last night - back to back!

Leningrad Cowboys Go America - Finnish film - very weird movie (cannot call it a comedy really) but decent music. Rating - 2/5

Entre las piernas (Between the legs) - Spanish film - very good thriller about a couple of sex addicts who are trying to mend their ways. Lots of interconnected story lines means a bit confusing to follow but good acting (as expected with Javier Bardem and Victoria Abril) Rating 3.5/5

Wanted to get up at 6:30 in the morning and watch the full telecast LIVE on Star Movies BUT got up at 8 and started watching it 9 AM onwards so could only catch it for an hour and a half BUT what an event !

The OSCARS are simply the best. Watched the Filmfare Awards also last night which I enjoyed BUT comparing it with the Oscars I would not even rate it as 1% it.

The lame jokes and even SRK & SAK were pathetic compared to Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin.

In fact of late I have noticed that the Filmfare awards sets are looking so cheap and I could see the chairs in the awards which looked like the ones used in weddings !!

Hurt Locker's a fantastic film and I would recommend it highly.

I liked the speech that Oprah made for the " PRECIOUS " actress and said that just one small movie away has made her sit next to biggies like Meryl Streep & Sandra Bullock and what else could be a bigger dream if not this. That was moving !

All the Co Stars who spoke a bit about their fellow nominations was excellent.

Our Film Industry has a long long way to go before they come even close to these people.

Since the Hurt Locker has swept away most of the Oscars this time, it definitely deserves it. However, I found it good but I have seen better movies in this Oscar race. Some of the better movies (according to me):
1. Up in the Air
2. Hangover
3. An Education
4. Inglorious Basterds
5. Young Victoria
6. of course, the Lovely Bones

Avatar got totally shafted with only 3 technical awards. Read somewhere some day back that Avatar lost out because many of the people who vote saw it and did not like what it implied (actors out of a job). If it progresses like that, all you would need are visual expert specialists.

@Abhay- Of the various awards that are around, Oscars are still the most respected & not without a reason, yes we may not agree with the academy always but then again its not made for us.

@Vkochar- Yeah Filmfare was time pass & I saw it as an entertainment program & not as an award ceremony.

@Vasudeva- I doubt that would be the case because this way even animations would do similar harm & they did have actors(even the Navi guys) to make Avtaar :)

I am aware of this but was stating what I read. Even today, there was a post-Oscar article (perhaps in LA Times) about what Avatar and `synthetic performers' implied.

Regarding the FF awards and the various other sundry awards awarded to Indian artistes, it is not a big surprise that some actors fail to turn up year after year. Oscars may be flawed to some but they definitely have a substantially higher credibility (IMHO). Some of the awards for acting in this year's FF were shocking. My wife bugged me to watch the FF last night. Watched it from 945 pm yesterday night, but got tired of watching the 7 minute award programming for every 10-12 minutes of commercial breaks. Turned off the set at 1030pm and went to sleep. Woke up at 6am and watched the Oscars till 715 am, when had to start getting ready for work. My wife watched the entire show.
