Astrowix is the better option for North India chapter. If am not wrong that is the oldest. I'm planning to clear the exam within the next few months.

Else you can check with http://'www.pppariyojana.com/' This was suggested by PMI.

Planning to join the SP Jain course in Mumbai in April for PMP, would members have any other recommendations with reasons? An alternative is a course conducted in Thane.

Thanks condor.
My experience (preparation, exam and LL)
Preparation time: 1 month ( 1 - 2 hours every day for the first 25 days)
Serious preparation: 5 days ( took off from work did lots and lots of practice tests)

Materials used

1) PMBoK
2) Rita - Bible
3) Rajesh Nair PMP notes (from PMZilla)
4) SABCONS prep notes

Tests done
1) Head First - 80%
2) PM Study - 86%
3) All practice tests from Rita, Headfirst and SABCONS

LL:
1) dont waste time on all ITTO mugging up. try to understand the process and in the exam, all will reveal automatically

2) Use Sir Ganttalot videos on youtube for easy way to calculate critical path, float
3) If you are already practicing the knowledge areas in your work (which most companies do), preparation is really easy

4) Exam is not very easy not very tough too. I finished all my questions including review of marked questions in 2 hours vs the exam schedule of 4 hours.

re: Are you a PMP (Project Management Professional)?

Guys

I've got a green belt in Six-sigma in Dec, 2012. I believe it helps in getting credits for my PMP certificate. Does anyone have an idea on how to get this reported to PMI? I am no longer a member of PMI from Dec, 2012--I'd taken membership only for one year.

re: Are you a PMP (Project Management Professional)?

Ok, just heard that after 31st July 2013, the PMBoK 5th edition will take effect.

Am confused now. Wanted to do this for a long time, just couldn't get time off from work.

Is it really worth the hassle to start preparing now and get this over with before 31st July? Or is it a bit too late?

I think I would have to wait a long time to know the new edition trends if I miss this 31st July deadline.

There won't be much change from one edition to the other. And the changes will be discussed in brief during your 35 PDUs course/training or the boot camp as well. In my case I prepared for the 3rd edition and wrote exam for the 4th edition. The changes were on stakeholder analysis and management. I just read up on Google. There were 2-3 questions I think and pretty straight forward. So doesn't make a difference IMO. Take the exam per your convenience. All the best!

@Oxy - On top it, there were not schedules available in chennai till 2nd week of Aug. So, I have been forced to take up the exam in PMBOK 5 edi. Scheduled for 30-Sep-13.

We will see how it goes...

Thanks,
Kottee

re: Are you a PMP (Project Management Professional)?

May be too early to say this, but I feel there should not be too much change between the versions. Yes, there is at least one addition for stakeholder management, but isnt that something we do day in & day out ?

The pattern of the exam isnt changing. So I suggest, please continue as you would normally.
