Re: Snakes!

It is indeed an Ornate Flying Snake (species C. ornata).
I completely missed the orange spots. My bad.

(I wouldn't have put the laughter smilie if he had not survived this encounter.)

I didn't find the video. I'll take your word for it. Might be easier on my blood pressure than watching more of this guy's antics!

Re: Snakes!

I saw this harmless guy, a few days ago. It's a shield tail, one of my friends said. Which one, however; I would leave it to experts. It was trying to cross a busy road, so would have got run over for sure. I think these are quite rare in the wild, and to see one in a busy city like Pune in a busy junction at ~8.30 AM in the morning, it is time for us humans to introspect. Probably, we are encroaching (or have already encroached) on their space in unimaginable ways!

Re: Snakes!

Our second rendezvous with a snake in our garage. I switched on the light in our garage to park the car inside and instantly noticed a long dark unknown thing in the corner of the wall. Garage having a almost white mosaic flooring helped us to spot it instantly. After seeing us it went and hid itself behind a heavy unused wooden door which was rested against the wall. I had to move the door to chase the snake away if I want to try on my own. But while I am pushing the door, if the snake slithers to my feet, I will not have any control. Hence did not take a chance and called the bbmp helpline for catching snakes. He came 30 minute later and all those 30 minutes I stood guard just to ensure that the snake does not go somewhere else.
The snake catcher said it is a wolf snake and not poisonous.

Snake handlers always catch one by the tail from behind, before they work around to grabbing it's neck.

Oh! Thanks. I guess it makes sense. I've never seen it, so I was speaking from ignorance.

Re: Snakes!

Bit off topic, now a days sighting of king cobras is becoming more and more common near the villages of western ghats. When we were kids only select few in the village who were venturing deep inside the forest would have seen king cobras and they were treated as some kind of legends. Now a days the human conflict is increasing and even I have sighted multiple times, once I was able to record using dash cam as well.

Re: Snakes!

Noticed this one just in time as it attempted to cross the road. This was on Sringeri to SK Border road. Skies were clear here and sunlight was quite bright and piercing.

Huge shoutout and a Total Respect to good humans like you both for being kind enough to notice them and allow them to cross

It is one thing to admire such wonderful creatures with whom we share this planet, but one needs character to respect their space and harm them.

Re: Snakes!

Saw this inside my cooking gas cage today and is located outside my work area. To me it appears to be the skin of a baby snake.

Any idea what snake it could be ? There is a land behind my house were I had spotted a cobra previously. Also around March this year we had a baby snake inside the work area and forest officials were called to take it away.
