The optician is right. Any glass with such a coating will affect colours. One should choose glasses based on one's profession.

I purchased a blue light blocking glass today. I don't really see a major difference in colours. You should try one on at a shop to check if it will really affect your photography work. Also, assuming that's not the only thing you do with the phone/computer, you can use it rest of the time.

I am using blue light blocking glasses (Titan) since last 15 years. Recently got the lenses changed from Titan as it had a few scratches. What Thad was told by the optician is true. The specs block the blue light and if you remove the eyewear, you will instantly realize the difference in the color tone of a computer screen or even natural light/ landscape. It really helps my eyes as I have a full time computer screen staring job. Apart from these temporary glasses, my eyes are still fine and I don't wear any powered glasses. I credit these glasses for the same. These glasses reduce eye fatigue to a great extent.

Though, if your profession or nature of work is dependent on the accuracy of color, then be aware that these glasses will alter the color tone, so take a call accordingly.

Regards,
Saket

Hmm, I don't see a major difference :-(

Either my eyes are too damaged from years of computer use that they can't make out the difference or I have been sold fake glasses (though I do feel a minor comfort after wearing them - it may be a placebo effect though).

One easy test to check such glasses is to hold them in such a way that they reflect an artificial light source like a cool daylight tubelight/ LED etc. Since it is supposed to block the blue light, ideally they should reflect the light source in blue color. Somewhat like this (but in a bluish tone rather than green). This reflection tone is basically the light color which is being blocked.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

It's kind of funny-ironic that, when I worked with computers, I didn't want one in the home, as my working day was more than enough screen staring. Now I spend many more hours. But, back then, I had not made the internet one of my main methods of interacting with the world, source of information, news, entertainment, and also of a large chunk of social life.

For what it is worth (second-hand info), the last time I visited my eye doc, there was an item posted on the wall saying that there is no real evidence of positive effect of blue-light-filter glasses. But if people find them comfortable, that's fair enough.

As a test, maybe, put one lens of the specs on a sheet of white paper. See how the paper appears through, and not through, the lens. Lots of people don't realise that their car glass is lightly tinted, but once they see the effect, they can't unsee it. I've experienced this myself!

Adapting to different colour temperature of different light sources is part of what our eye/brain system does automatically. Maybe people cease to notice the effect of blue-light blockers? But I'm sure they are going to have an effect on picture-editing results.

Modern displays are a lot easier to look at than CRTs, although I've heard people say that CRTs could actually give better results. We don't have much problem with flicker now. Twenty-five years ago, I considered it part of my job to notice if people's screens were flickering. It becomes obvious if seen through the corner of the eye (peripheral vision more sensitive to movement). The people who had somehow contrived to change their display settings often hadn't noticed the flicker, but they feel some improvement when I corrected it.

People are misinformed about blue light and uv light. The light from our screens are blue light, and blue light filters filter them and allow only some to pass through. Blue light from screens don't blind us or increase the "power". They just strain the eyes a bit more. They also mess up with our sleep cycle when exposed closer to bedtime.

Blue light(UV) from the sun though, affects the eyes. It advances cataract. So, uv blocking lens are a must, while blue cut lenses when working on digital screens are helpful.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

For the past few days, i am hearing some creaking type sound on my Knee Joints when i bend it. Also, when i stretch my leg by giving it a jerk, there is a popping / clicking sound from the Knee Ball joint. Is it anything to do with Vit D deficiency or Uric Acid? I had done a Full Body Test in March and the values for these were 15.2 and 5.8.

Any pointers?

Knee joint or any joint popping is normal in most individuals. Nothing to worry about.
For the reports kindly share units and lab reference value.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Any nephrologist in the forum? Need urgent advice.
My creatinine level is 1.34 and egfr is 60.
I work out heavy in the gym, have once a day protein shake.
Is this something I should be worried about??
Is cystatin c a better test to be done for those who are in to heavy workouts??
Google says most heavy lifters have high creatinine and low egfr.
Am I losing my kidney function?

Update on this. The blue light blocking glasses have been absolutely amazing for me. When I had written up this original question, my eyes had started feeling extremely uncomfortable. Within a couple of weeks now, I think 75% of my discomfort is gone. So please thank your wife on my behalf.

I don't know if I have a dry eye issue - I am not sure what a dry eye would feel like. But I am guessing it wouldn't harm to use lubricant drops anyway occasionally & see if they reduce eyestrain. Do you have the name/brand of a good lubricant eye drop?

Some commonly used Lubricant or Artificial tear drops are as under:-
PS: To be used after physical consultation with an Ophthalmologist. Self medications must be avoided in crucial organs like eyes

I'm glad you're getting better! Are you paying by upi or cash?

Some of the symptoms of dry eye are:
  • A gritty feeling
  • Feeling like there’s something in your eye
  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Blurry vision
  • Light sensitivity

In some cases, excess tears can also be a symptom of dry eyes. Clogged Meibomian glands in the eye can also cause dry eyes. It can be hereditary or acquired. New treatment methods have come up for that. Light therapy is found to be helpful. Talk to your ophthalmologist.

In your case, it seems to be more like an eye strain than a dry eye, because you felt better with blue cut lenses.

If you think you have dry eyes, lubricants or artifical tears will help soothe the condition, but they won't cure. Prolonged use of these drops can make you dependant on them. Try these instead to have better results:
  • Take omega 3 fatty acid supplements(preferably animal based, as absorption from plant based o3 is poor) for at least 6 to 8 weeks. Better yet if you consume natural sources of omega 3s like oily fish.
  • Avoid watching anything for a long time. Take frequent breaks if you must. Dry air in Ac rooms can also contribute to dry eyes. Take breaks.
  • Wear protective glasses when you're out in dusty windy environment. Wear goggles when riding motorcycle or bicycle, even at night.
  • Consult an ophthalmologist if your condition is severe.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Calling on dentists for advise.

On of my close family members (in late 30s) is suffering from pre-mature tooth decay and after removal of all but 6 each of front upper and lower teeth, is feeling the facial structure as well as clarity of speech is getting affected a bit now. We are contemplating a total of 4 implants, one on each side of the upper and lower jaw and then placing bridge of artificial teeth to fully cover the teeth area.

How complicated is the implant process? any side effects or risks? ball park costs involved?

Personally I use Tears Natura Forte. It was recommended by my ophthalmologist years ago for dry eyes and computer vision. Works quite well.

Though you might want to check with your own doctor, but generally over the counter artificial lubricants like Tears Natura are safe if used as indicated.
