WOW. It's a great piece of information.

Yesterday morning, when I checked the market, I saw a blood bath everywhere. My portfolio was down by 6%. I was not aware of the reason of this crash but I took this as an opportunity and bought some more shares.

Thanks for this detailed analysis.

Voted 76-100%

Considering my home loan is still open, I wouldn’t call it an asset yet.

I majorly invest in Mutual Funds with some exposure to direct stocks.

My portfolio fell approx 3% yesterday but that didn’t bother me much since I’m in for a long time and use such opportunities to buy more.

Same here everyone had an average fall of 2-4% depending on the portfolio, for those in the long term game, this is a non issue.

Re: Do you play the stock market

I am expecting another 7-10% fall, to remove the froth from the market. That will give some good opportunities.

Re: Do you play the stock market

This is more than just the usual fall folks. Last time it fell, way back in 2008, the interest rates were high and the central banks could use it as a leverage to lower the rates and pump more money. Now that that 'one trick pony' is used up, the picture looks bleak and sobering.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Despite the global slowdown, Indian market scenario is very different as we have a big untapped emerging middle class. The consumption in India is not slowing down anytime in the next decade as the dicretionary spending for most Indians started in very recent years. So, I see these dips or panic selling as a blessing in disguise for investors to pick their favourite stocks.
However, with the Indian governemnt and SEBI focusing on controlling derivatives trading, the average trader may not sustain for long.

Re: Do you play the stock market

From an anecdotal perspective, it appears to me that consumer spending has decreased significantly over the quarter. An example of this can be seen in vehicle inventory pile up.

In addition, cost of living has increased significantly. Rent and groceries - two large expenditures - have become more expensive. The lesser said about home prices, the better.

Now, with this change in the market coupled with the high leverage through unsecured and secured debt will most likely result in a recessionary period.

As pointed earlier, these are anecdotal evidences. I would love to be corrected.

This is some news! I don't know what to write without getting political. But as we all know, this will also pass without any action!

What do you mean "will pass without any action"? I'm pretty sure some action will be taken against Hindenberg.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Nothing will happen. Investigations, resignations and what not have been going on for the NSE Colocation scam for almost 10 years now. People have even forgotten about it. If not for the new Hindenberg news, the v1 of it was mostly forgotten too.

Every 15 days or so we have a spicy news from a certain sector and nothing happens except another spicy news 15 days later.
A simple google search reveals the following, I'm pretty sure the figures could be much higher though.

I sure hope so. Last time nothing was proven. I hope this time they impose a Rs 1000 crore fine on Hindenburg.

Re: Do you play the stock market

The more pertinent question is on how the Monday markets will open and react to this allegation. Every time there is a small tremor borne out of corporate misdemeanor, the pillars of individual investments get shaken to the core. The Ukraine war, l'affaire Adani and the aftermath of the General Elections have put a substantial dent in the common man's coffers. While it is true that external factors are responsible not only for losses but also yield profits, passive investors could very well do without persistent shocks.

In the instant case, if the imputations are even minutely true, SEBI's reputation will take a severe beating. When the fence itself starts feasting on the crops that it is supposed to safeguard, where should one find tlthe savior?

Haha, smartcat was being sarcastic. When they first revealed about Adani shady foreign investors, it was kinda open secret. But this time if this allegation is proven, it’s going to seriously affect the credibility of SEBI. It’s clearly a conflict of interest with the chairperson and husband holding funds while also involved in the investigation without disclosing the same.

Watched the news on Channel News Asia (Singapore channel). The captions appeared as 'Short seller's allegations refuted by SEBI Chief' & through out the news Hindenburg was tagged as 'Short seller'.

Even though Hindenburg is not hiding this info, this tag added another dimension to the news.
