I invested and disinvested during today's Muhurat trading. First, the disinvestments:

1. J&K Bank

2. NTPC

3. Reliance Capital

The sale proceeds were invested by adding more shares in my portfolio:

1. Axis Bank

2. M&M

3. Tata Motors

Re: Do you play the stock market

Dear team, I am newbie in terms of stocks and request you all to point out few resources from where I can learn the basics to start of my journey.

I have been investing into MFs from last 4 years

Also what would be the best Demat / Stock trading account for the beginners.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Hi Pankaj,

There are multiple posts in this thread mentioning books and sites. You can browse across the last 1 or 2 year's posts. As activity is less that should not be a big task.

For a long term investor any known broker will do. It would be good if the brokerage is low, they give statements mentioning short term tax if any and user interface is good. I am using HDFC and do not like it. Will shift to Sharekhan next month.

Re: Do you play the stock market

For all shareholders of CCL Products, the company released its 2Q15 results. Following are the key highlights on a consolidated basis:

Revenues increased by 49% y/y, 41% q/q to 247cr
EBITDA Margins at 19.6% (vs. 20.2% in 2Q14, 20.5% in 1Q15)
Net Income increased by 57% y/y, 29% q/q to 26cr

1H15 EPS is 3.48 Rs/share. If we assume 2H15 EPS to be Rs 4/share, then EPS for FY15 will be Rs 7.48/share. Assuming a PE multiple of 20 (which is conservative in my opinion for such a fast growing company), Fair value for March-15 will be Rs 150, i.e. close to 20% upside from current levels. I am assuming 2H to be stronger because historically that has been the case. In FY13/FY14, 55%/54% of the full year EPS came from 2H.

Let me know if I have messed up any financials here. Happy to discuss more.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Yes Saanil, the CCL results were great. But for me its still a FY16 story when full Vietnam capacity goes on stream. The senior team I met at Guntur plant were quiet confident about this. Second half could be even better than you have projected becasue much higher capacity utilisation will happen.

PI results were not great. Agrochemical business would have suffered due to erratic monsoons. But long term story is intact for me. I'll be a buyer if the price falls to 350 levels.

Both companies have conference calls tomorrow. People interested to hear the management and ask questions can login. PI at 11:30 and CCL at 2:00pm. If you need the phone numbers pls PM.

Cheers

Vindy

Re: Do you play the stock market

Hi Saanil, Thank you very much for the update. CCL is on right track, there could be a good opening for CCL tomorrow. Traders can reap benefits.

Hi VindyWheels, PI is moving up again as per the charts, CCI and RSI are indicating that the price will go up. MACD has crossed the signal line. PI is heading for a good up-move. I could not grab it on 17th and 20th, the price was hovering around 370ish and it was in oversold zone. I will PM you, please let me know the phone numbers, I want to attend both the calls.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Thank you Sabs for the technical update.

Really appreciate your efforts in attending the concalls. Most people only look at the price daily and seldom realize that there is a business attached to the stock and that one's fortunes are connected to how well that business does. Listening to my partners (I consider promoters of companies my business partners ) is very important for me. I do not buy the argument that promoters will paint a rosy picture and will misguide investors. Any entrepreneur will be an ultra optimist. That's why they start businesses confidently even though the odds are against them succeeding. The investor just needs to know what to ignore and what to discount when he listens to the promoter. When most of their peers go after secure salaried jobs, these men dream big and build companies. They risk it out, work hard and follow their passion. Knowing these great men and their journey is a very exciting and interesting part of the investment process.

Found this nice article a few days back on how long the bull phase will last

Hi VindyWheels, Rightly said, promoters should be treated as business partners. Conv calls are the way we connect with them, but the sad part is that we do not get the time to attend it. But today I have decided to attend it. PI might take hitting today after the results so the technicals will change drastically.

Though not five years but I have held for quite sometime now (I guess it was around 2000 then, but I have been adding consistently so my average buy is about 5000).
And frankly I am now kind of scared with the meteoric rise.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Below are the key points from the 2Q15 conference call of CCL Products (Disclosure: I am invested in the stock). It was a solid conference call in my opinion. It is possible I might have missed some figures here. Do let me know in case you find something unusual or have any questions.

-India business: Currently CCL is only focusing in Andhra and has made soft launches in Lucknow/Allahabad. They are setting up a team (marketing team) in order to expand further. They have few clients in the hotel/airline industry and institutional clients. More clarity will be provided in the next fiscal year.

-CCL generally has 3 month/6 month/12 month contract with clients. As soon as they get an order, they procure the raw material for the contract period.

-Inventory has increased because of the stronger pipeline in the coming months. Current level of inventory will last for the next 3-4 months.

-Management is supportive of higher payout ratios – looks like it will be better going forward (it was 25% in FY14).

-Management remains comfortable with their debt situation. There is no debt with their Indian and Switzerland operations. There is one debt in their Vietnam operations ($18mn from IFC Washington and $17mn from EXIM India). Out of this $35mn, they have about $25mn outstanding, of which $10mn is for working capital purpose.

-Management focus initially is not on EBITDA margins but rather on increasing the utilization level of their plants and building long term relationship with their customers/new clients.

-Management previously too had tried to expand their business in India but had failed. But those days were different – Kirana stores were the major force and Nestle/HUL had strong dealership network. CCL also did not have a strong financial position at that time. But now, things are different – there are more supermarkets and CCL is financially better.

-CCL is not concerned about the drought situation in Brazil.

-Gross margins should get better in coming time due to their businesses maturing/stabilizing.

-Switzerland business is expected to become profitable. They are currently in talks with the government regarding the application of duty on their products.

-Africa is a future growth opportunity for CCL. Currently they do business of about 1k ton in Africa. Once they reach 2k ton levels, they will think about setting up a plant here. Africa may soon witness better business conditions (like duty free movement across the continent just like in ASEAN) – if this happens, CCL might set up business in Africa sooner.

-Their current capacity is 15k tons in India and 5k tons in Vietnam – so total of 20k tons. Vietnam plant is at 50% utilization which will be increased to 75% next year. Next year, they are planning on increasing their total capacity to 25k tons (the increase coming from India in both spray dried and freeze dried coffee). Capex for this expansion will be around 20cr and will be funded internally. Additional capex may be required for Vietnam in FY16/FY17 and it will be around $10mn-$12mn which will increase capacity to 20k tons from 10k tons currently.

-CCL is looking to set up a packaging plant in US (capex of about $8mn-$10mn) while the coffee will come from Vietnam – they are currently doing market study/research. US generally get its coffee from Brazil/ Ecuador/Mexico/Columbia. CCL will be focusing on private label in US while they will be pushing their own brand in India/Vietnam/Switzerland
