I have a different opinion. The index is trading at 16-17 multiples and the stocks like HLL are trading at 30+ multiples. So I doubt whether these are the stocks which would lead the next rally.

Just tell me for online trading which is better...

icicidirect.com

or

hdfcsec.com

So that i could finalize & open a account in that...
ICICIdirect has the highest brokerage currently offered in india. But they have an excellent web portal for online trading. Its pretty user friendly and lots of options for your stratergy planning and analysis.

HDFC sec offers medium brokerage plans but their online user GUI sucks. You cannot find how to initiate a trade and then square off.You get lost after purchasing a particular stock and fail to find it in your demat column.

So in case you are ok with high brokerages but an excellent user experience then go with ICICIdirect.

In case you prefer trading on phone then chose motilal oswal or sharekhan.Relatively lower brokerages.

And in case you are interested in reallly low brokerages then try zerodha.com or lowestbrokerage.in

These ppl charge just 20 rupees brokerage per trade irrespective if you buy 10 lots or 20 lots.So in case you trade like a madmax like me then go for these.

I use icicidirect and sharekhan for my trades

Out of this lot I would request you to ignore Oil India all Oil marketting companies are susceptible and sensitive to global news.
Just a very silly rumour of israel striking iran would force the oil to shoot beyond $100 and this would mean that all marketting companies will end their day with severe losses affecting their stocks. This holds true for long term too.
Alternatively I would suggest you to go for Oil producing companies like ONGC which is already on your list and others like CAIRN etc.

Looking at how the last year or so has panned out, I believe the name of the thread should be changed to "Does the stock market play you?"

Thats because Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) has rejected bharti' shipyard's FDI proposal for defence operations on which investors were unhappy as Bharti shipyard's debts are already high and any new venture would have meant burning its finance coffers.
Hence as soon as FIPB rejected its FDI proposal investors responded

On a serious note, the title of the thread should not have the word "play" in it.

This is a serious business. I wonder if a neurosurgeon's wife says her husband is out to " play " when he is operating.

If you are playing, you dont expect to be paid, unless you are in the top 5 % of the sport. ( approx... i really dont know the actual figures)

The rest of the 95 % actually " PAY " to play the sport.

If you play a round ( I wonder if its called that) of golf, do you later stand in queue to be paid for playing that round, or do you " PAY" for playing?

Similarly, if you are " Playing" in the stock market, expect to " PAY " to play or join the top 5 % who are " PAID " to play or are paid when they play.

Almost sounds like a tongue twister, after all that pay and play in the above post

Thanks your response. They have taken a huge debt when they made an open offer for Great Offshore and it has given negative returns in the past few years and is touching new lows specially after its removal from F & O
I pesonally favour ABG shipyard(at one I had both) and when I saw their report was very surprised at other expenses incurred so sold off recently.

Re: Do you play the stock market

I didnt jump for BHarati Shipyard due to the uneven graph and news.

I have just begun tracking Great Eastern Shipping as an alternative. Looks average though.

Re: Do you play the stock market

For people who day trade heavily there is a site dedicated to the indian stock market.
Its a microblogging site for traders and investors and not to mention everything is free there. And the admin just hates ads.So no ads too.
Anyone can give calls and there will be a dozen people asking him the reasons for his call.
And in case you ask any question regarding any stock then you have 100 people replying to it.Its similar to twitter. So turnaround time for any answer is within seconds.

Here's the link Welcome to Tradoholics

Hope its helpful for day traders.I am on it from morning 9am when stock market opens to evening 11:30pm when commodities markets close.

Mods:I am not sure whether posting links of other sites is allowed or not but I am not promoting this site.Just posting this to make t-bhp traders and investors aware of such a site.In case its against the forum rules then please delete this post.

Re: Do you play the stock market

@J.Ravi: Any specific reason for IOB?

Other scrips look to be good buys..
