hey adc,

october is a complete no go time. sangla is at an average elevation of 8500 feet and can get about 3-4 feet of snow. the road up was atrocious now, so it would be pretty much non-existent in october. chitkul gets snowed in and would be unreachable.

kalpa should be do-able but be prepared for a bit of a mess, since that is bang in the middle of apple harvesting season - kalpa had BILLIONS of apple orchards!!! lol:

the best time to go is Feb through July, since after that the rains set in and can make life fairly miserable!!!

Thanks Sumit. I checked out Godfather's garage and there is an angle shot of the Nudge guard, it shows the mounting and it is also mounted on the chasis. Doesnt this still damage the Chasis in case of an head-on or does the fiber build does not sustain impact and provides no resistance to an impact and simply crumples? Just a curious question.

Thanks for the info, then it will be Bhutan - of course more fantastic pictures from you - dont know - but it will be mountains for sure. Again, as said, awaiting your travelogue plus your camping details, particularly the places where you pitched in.

I may be mistaken but if any bull bar or nudge guard is mounted on the chassis, then in all probability, it will mess with the crumple zone of the vehicle which is best avoided. I am also sure that there are products available which are mounted on the bumper mounts and don't play with the chassis. You should trying messaging Dadu and see if he has some information. Also JKDas was in talks with his dealership for one such product. You can ask them to post here for the benefit of others.

I havent driven it but does it not feel totally out of breath on the highway while overtaking with reasonable load and the AC on. All said that has to be the most resilient engine ever fitted to a big 4X4 :D

Agree with you on each points. But when I got this beast way back many many years ago, then leaving aside the petrol engines and a few merc diesels this was a demon on the roads. No one had seen such a huge car hurtling down the roads except for trucks and almost all used to say that a TATA 407 engine has been plonked in it. It gave a steady 10 kmpl then and now as well. I used to have the right of way then and now too.

I love this baby of mine too much to even think of a heart transplant. I nowadays drive Scoprio that is more peppier and faster. Scoot & shoot kind. The Safari is driven by wife. But whenever I get a chance to drive it, I enjoy it thoroughly. The vast expanse of space generates a tremendous comfort level..:)

As far as out of breath syndrome is concerned, let me give you some statistics when it was last driven by me on the highway with full load and AC from Gurgaon to Mumbai & back in June 2006:

Gurgaon to Ajmer via Jaipur bypass:

Departure - 6 am Arrival - Chandvaji (jaipur bypass) 9:45 am

Arrival Ajmer - 11:30 (with pit stop for Bfast)

Departure Ajmer - 3 pm (darshan at dargah, Lunch etc.)

Arrival Udaipur - 8:30 pm.

This should give a fairly good idea about breathlessness...!!!
