I'm in my fifth company currently over the last ten years. Except for my first job (which was a campus hire after MBA), the rest were all via referrals - from ex-colleagues and ex-managers.

Never underestimate the power of connexions. People always recall how you were as a colleague and teammate, more than what exactly you achieved.

I got a call from the company directly. They got my profile from Naukri.com

Re: Jobs, Attrition & Layoffs in IT companies

Networked hard as I was being let go in my previous company! A friend of mine who was on his way out (different role, different product line) in the current company fielded me with the CEO & CHRO!! It worked out after a few months of discussions / negotiations!

Learning: Keep Networking!

Into my 5th firm in 17 years. First job was college off-campus, rest all have been through Naukri.com. I mean recruiters called me after seeing my resume on that portal.

I should add during hunting phase for my last job(mid-2020), I did have a couple of offers through referrals as well but ended up joining the naukri sourced one for whatever reasons. As you gain experience, referrals become a better source of getting calls compared to vanilla job portals.

In my 13yrs career i have been part of 3 organizations, barring the first one which i joined as a GET the other 2 have been purely by referral via personal connections, infact the job opening for my current role was something that was not even published outside, it was purely thru a close connection whom i had already put a word connected me to the hiring manager.

In fact 2 other offers that i had got but was not able to accept were also via referrals.

Job offers which i was getting via job portals were somehow not able to match my requirements.

A major advantage of internal referral is that it takes away the middle man (H.R), connects you directly to the hiring team, you are more clearly aware of the role, expectations from you and work culture of the particular company/team, helps in making a more informed decision.

Was working with JP Morgan in Mumbai, a Berlin based small-ish company reached out on LinkedIn and we went through the formal interview process - screening, tech round, offer rollout in like a month. Took a gamble and just moved to Germany in Jan 2019. JD was almost 90% match for what I was doing back then, but I ended up doing a lot of other stuff here. Still working with the same company and very much happy I made the move.

I am in my 5th job. The first job I got through self-reaching to the organization. I mean I went directly to this company and asked for the available opportunity if any, and they have it.

The rest of the jobs are through the recruitment agencies who called me after viewing my Naukri/Linked In profile.

Re: Jobs, Attrition & Layoffs in IT companies

While we are on the topic of Jobs and References, I feel this to be a good opportunity to network myself for an opportunity 😂

I’m into Business Development for 10 months in this current role. Have an experience of shy of 3 years. Have completed MBA from a Tier 1 college based out of Mumbai. Looking to move into Marketing role. I know my experience don’t justify the move but my passion does.

If anyone has any leads or way they can help, I’ll be grateful

Through a website called CutShort.io. I had created a profile and a recruiter reached out to me.

Prior to that was via LinkedIn. I saw a job opening, sent a connection request to company's founder and shared the CV.

Re: Jobs, Attrition & Layoffs in IT companies

My Current and previous job was offered through Linkedin.
I came across the opening and applied and got the job.
Both the times i was in touch with the HR or the hiring manager so things were quick and transparent.

Re: Jobs, Attrition & Layoffs in IT companies

Eight years back when I desperately looking for a change and failed to clear umpteen interviews. One day a recruiter called me from miles away. When I was hesitant he told me “just come and attend. From our conversation I am sure the interview is going to a formality only”. He was right. That day I walked out with the job. Since then, I am working with the same organisation but in different roles and levels.
