Thanks everybody for wishing me on this thread, on the phone, and by SMS.

Yesterday I decided to celebrate by doing a little off-roading in my office ground, put on a little show to my office staff. It was also a first serious test of the skid plates.

It has been raining regularly since 1 week. The ground looked little soft. So when I scouted in the morning, I figured it was Ok. But it rained hard for two hours before the scheduled time. But I still went ahead thinking it might not be a serious problem. But it was.

To cut long story short, while backing out at one point, I neglected to scout what was behind me, and the rear right type dropped into small crevice and GV happily sat on the ground, on the brand new skid plates. The tyres had no traction as a result. It was already 6PM, me and my colleagues tried hard to pull it out, it went on for hours late into night, then we gave up, and decided to eat the birthday cake and refreshment, everybody needed it badly.

I came home covered in mud, took a shower and watched a movie with the family to call it a day. After all, the GV was safe, in the office.

Today morning I am going again, trying to a get crane to lift it, so that we can fill the crevice, get traction back to the wheels. BTW, it rained whole night, and it is still raining as I write this.

So it was a very memorable birthday, and I learned a lesson too, DON'T OFF-ROAD ALONE.

Right in front of your co-workers, too. Oh, the indignity of it all. I have seen some guys do some amazing things with hand winches here. Starting to think of carrying one. Or, maybe I will just marry Usha, the 123 kilo 6'6" Parsee girl who helped me change my tranny last year. She picked up my Sumo while I bolted it in.

Finally it required a Tata 407 to pull it out. The full story deserves a separate thread. The GV is in good shape other than one bent plastic panel and a bent rear license plate. Gave a thorough under body pressure wash at a garage, they removed close to 10Kg worth of mud from the underbody.

No indignity actually. It was nice to see all of them staying till 9PM helping to pull out the vehicle.

Belated wishes,Sharath.
OT:
When one wheel loses traction, by theory on a lockable differential, torque/power goes to the remaining three wheels.
Right?

Absolutely! I saw a really short clip of one - pretty amazing capabilities. I think it was called something like "MAT"(?) but could not find any info on it afterwards.
