The Superstitions thread - Including driving superstitions

Hi,

I have been thinking of all the Superstitious statements which we have come across. This happened yesterday when i was speaking to one of my friends. Though lot of people believe it some do not. So let's discuss all that you have heard.

I will start with -
When a black cat cross your path, it is not good. You are supposed to cancel your journey.

Why - I don't know?

Just got this from a friend during lunch.
The trousers I am wearing once made contact with my bike silencer.
That left a small burn on it.
I got the trouser mended by grafting some cloth from inside the pocket area.

But wearing clothing which has been burnt is supposed to be a bad omen.

like I care.

as all of you know, the lemon is run over by the vehicle. this is supposed to remove all 'evil' (evil eye, evil curses, evil * !!!) from the vehicle and on to the lemon to be destroyed! (Duh!).

So stepping on it, supposedly, transfers those 'vehicle' evil onto you!

Another one - dont walk under a ladder.

Why? Absolutely no idea - just because John said to me, to whom Jack told...

another one - related to travel:

Do not travel between early hours of the morning, between 3~4; spirits of people who have died on the road roam about at these times (when did they change their shift timing from 12midnight???).

But I alway make sure that i start at these times for the early morning starts (long distance starts). The road are EMPTY!

able to cover long stretch with no disturbance in between!

While going out of the house (to work, party etc), if you happen to slip, you should return back, sit down, drink some water & then proceed. Well...

Plants give out CO2 and take in O2 in the night.

Sneezing once whicl you re going out; A Lizard falling on you; A crow flying touches on your head; A dog barking (crying) in night etc. These are supposed to be the bad omens (which our people feel).

In tamil, when you leave any place you should not say naan poraen (I am going), you should say naan poittu varren (I will go and come back).

Apparently, the former means that you will never come back to that place. (a common scene in most tamil serials)

Trukkers tying a lemon in front of their trucks and a single chappal behind for the truck to run problem-free.

These are all duly acknowledged and ridiculed by Tamil comedian Vivek.

If you have seen that comedy scene, you will be just like the smiley on this post.

The scene where he asks the driver "what is this lemon going to help with the 700 odd parts in you truck is not going to help" - thats a good one!

But the chappals - thats a new one!

people! everyone has totally neglected the most common and classic superstition .. when you take the car out in the morning(of for the first time that day) a lot of people tend to take it front first and then proceed to reverse!

its just how people believe bad things or omens might fall upon them .. i think the more one beleives in such thigs the more succeptible you are to fall prey to somethin which might be totally coincidental but beacuse of your beleifs you assume it has happened to you for a reason .. and always remember to respect other peoples beliefs and try to humor them as far as possible .. cheers
