No doubt some places are certainly good, but I think mostly it's hype, not worth the hassle.
I tend to agree. In these lemming-like Insta rush or revenge tourism times to eat and be seen eating at 'famous' joints, most of the charm is lost by the time you find parking etc. and reach a table and waiter.

Also personally feel that the explosion of new restaurants means they are more competent at churning out the idli/vada/pongal/dosa/bath stuff than earlier. The incremental benefit of slogging it to a MTR or suchlike is lesser now.

The scene on nearby highway joints are not much better. The Nandi Upachar or Indian Paratha Company (IPC) at Nandi Cross is usually jampacked on weekends and the Murugan Idly at Krishnagiri has wait times crossing 45-60 minutes. I'd much rather buy a energy bar and move on!

Re: A Guide: Eating out in Bangalore

Tried Rajarajeshwari Iyer Mess on Margosa road near its junction with 17th cross (opposite Third Wave Coffee).

We were very happy eating a simple, home style Iyer meal with Chappati, Kootu, Beans Palya/poriyal, Rice, Sambar, Rasam, Curd and Appalam for Rs.100 Also had a glass of buttermilk for an additional Rs.15 which I would highly recommend.

I have never been to the older and more famous Iyer Mess in Malleswaram which was reviewed by Kripal Amanna twice during Covid period. Many of my friends said that place is mostly just hype now and isn’t very good, so ended up at Rajarajeshwari Iyer mess which was also recommended by friends. Having friends who are really passionate Foodies helps

....
Thanks for the post. Will try this place when I'm around Malleshwaram.
Have you tried Roti Satkar at Vignana Nagar? (it is located here)

I found the food there, particularly Ragi, Jowar rotis and Holige very tasty.

Tried the benne dose here while coming back from STRR and it was really good. Not a big place but it was crowded even at 11 am.

Yes, the older Iyer mess is over rated and you might be better off trying out temple meals, which is bang opposite CTR.

Mylari hotel from Mysuru is looking for commercial plots in Jayanagara/ JP nagara and Indiranagara to open their Bengaluru outlet.

Yesterday saw this sign in Mysuru Nazarabad branch asking for any help from customers

Hope they don't open in Bengaluru. Their Mysore hotel itself is not able to maintain the quality and crowd. It's a three stage wait process in Mysore hotel. First outside, then at table, then in between dosaes as one dosae is not even sufficient for kids.

Only thing that has gone up is price lolz.

Glad to see your for this place. Pretty close by and has good reviews overall. Will certainly try it now!

May have already been discussed but the Garden City Beer Collective (GCBC) is a chilled place to go to for Yelahanka folks. Not AC but still pretty cool under a high roof with a lot of greenery and excellent parking. Pet-friendly too with prior appointment.

I had been a regular visitor here when it was actually very good and not viral/ hyped (2008 to 2010) and was not bored of eating two, three time a week. I have not been to this place atleast in the last 10 years and sad to know the current feedback.

Shivasagar signature on Marenahalli road in Jayanagar 9th block. If you are early you can park very close to the entrance, which would be very helpful for senior citizens; it's on the ground floor i.e no steps.

Your description matches another place I visited recently to meet friends visiting Full Circle in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. Nice place to hang out and good food.

There is a Mysuru Mylari which opened its doors a few months ago in BSK 1st stage and which has been garnering good reviews. A lot of my friends recommend this place. I am yet to try it out.
