If you are willing to spend, absolutely nothing beats the brunch buffet at Shangri La. The food is amazing, everything made with care. Costs around 3000 pp.

Try out the new JWM at Golfshire. Nice drive followed by a huge choice of items. They have separate barbecue kiosks serving a lot of bespoke non-veg including nice fat prawns. :D

Gets crowded though. Book, go early and enjoy the live music too.

After the runaway success of Rameshwaram cafe it was just a matter of time before more similar "cafes" serving Tamil Nadu style items came up, and here's one of them I saw today on Indiranagar double road on the right side when going from CMH road junction towards Old Madras road/BDA complex. It is called "The Srirangam Cafe" and the menu is similar to that of Rameshwaram cafe :)

We had only coffee today, but will definitely check it out soon, heard it has been around for a month or so.

We went to Rameshwaram Cafe at Indiranagar on a Sunday around 10am, looking for ghee podi idli like the one in Murugan Idi Shop at Krishnagiri.

First impressions: crazy massive crowds jostling for space on a few tables.
While the food was decent (I'd still prefer ghee podi idlis at Murugan's), the entire experience felt as if one has to rush through the food, with people pushing around looking for any space. Felt I'm on a clock. We tried ghee podi idli, garlic roast dosa, ghee onion dosa, vada, dahii vada, and podi utthapam. The filter coffee was okayish too.

Would I go back? Probably not. I'd still drive to Krishnagiri at around 10-11am when the crowds are sparse, and you can relax and eat in peace.

For me, Rameshwaram cafe is not genuine Tamil Nadu style and I am not able to understand why there is so much hype around it. Probably I am just frustrated how they have made a mess of an area I often traverse :)

Not sure if you have tried Sendhoor Coffee in JB Nagar, which felt more authentic to me.

I had posted a long while ago about Rameshwaram cafe, I found it very underwhelming and still wonder what is it that people seem to like so much there, and yes they've literally spoilt that side of the road, just like how the pubs and bars have spoilt the other side of the 12th main road. I try my best to avoid having to drive through that road. I have 40+ years of good memories of the area that I try not to compare with what it has become now.

I have tried Sendhoor JB Nagar as well as the one in Cambridge layout. They also have another branch on 60 feet road near Indiranagar BDA complex, I don't know if all these are genuine branches or just namesakes though. Yes, the food, especially the Pongal, Vada and Sambar are good and quite close to what one can expect in Tamil Nadu.

It is not because of the Tamil Nadu style food, but because the owners/partners of the cafe look upto Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who was born in Rameshwaram. It is in his memory they have named the cafe. One can see the glass etchings of Kalam sir in the cafe.

Me too wonder why is it so much hyped up. It should be named 'DARSHINI' not cafe'. rl:

Just tried this place on a friend's insistence. Paid almost Rs. 120 for a masala dose' in this cramped and crowded place.
120 bucks for standing and eating, even no place for that too. For that price one would expect a decent sitting arrangements, but for the ambience (??) they have they charge so much, which I think is only worth of 60-65 at best.

This cafe was forced to shut down by BBMP for all the nuisance it is creating in the neighbourhood recently, but guess what, it is back in business just after 2-3 days of shutting down :Frustrati

Tried Milano Ice Cream at Indiranagar and Holy Vishnu! What a magnificent find!
Tried 8 different flavours and fell in love with most of them. The almond croissant was yummy too!

Highly highly recommended!

Will definitely go there again to try other offerings :D

Folks - any idea about good restaurants offering New year dinner/lunch in & around Yelahanka area or in North Bangalore? Have a voucher to spend approx $100 for a family of 3. Foodies can suggest.

Please don't insult darshinis. :D But seriously, I think it's so famous because it's in Indiranagar and everyone from outside Bangalore thinks it's a great option for 'South Indian' food like 'dddosa sambhur'. Add to that the Indiranagar premium and word of mouth. Whoever I know with taste buds stays clear of it, and there was a quiet moment of appreciation when it shut down.

Their desserts are great too. It's owned and run by an actual Italian, and it's reasonably authentic.

Suggest Sattvam opposite Shell outlet on Sankey road. It is vegetarian and the buffet spread is quite good. I have been there quite a few times.

Rameshwaram Cafe may not be worth its hype, but Burma Burma right across the street definitely is!

I've had plenty of guests turn their noses up on the way in, 'how good can a vegan place be?', then walk out post-meal with jaws on the floor. My hardcore foodie and sworn non-vegetarian sister-in-law was impressed enough that she dragged her like-minded spouse to the NCR outlet back home later.

A bit pricey, but I've never been disappointed yet.

Folks who are not happy about the arrangements of Indiranagar outlet of Rameshwaram Cafe should try their other newly opened outlets (JP Nagar & Brookfield) which fare better in terms of space, parking and seating options. The Brookfield outlet is really nice and it's open till 2AM at night although the place is mostly crowded especially on weekends even after midnight but you can still find a spot to sit and eat if you wait for a while. I have been to the Brookfield outlet multiple times past midnight to enjoy the Podi Idli along with a cup of Masala Tea, especially if you have a good company then you'll enjoy the late night option.

Thanks for the clarification. Naming a restaurant after a place implicitly makes us think it has got something to do with its cuisine. The crowd still doesn’t make sense though. Luckily we are blessed with many other options in the neighbourhood and not contribute to the chaos there. Udupi park on the 100ft road has been my no nonsense place last couple of years for Bangalore ( No, not “South Indian” ) style Veg food . On a broader note, 12th main has leapt over 100ft road in terms of options and the late night crowd reminds me of my Brigade Road / Church street adventure days a while back :)
