Re: A Guide: Eating out in Bangalore

I checked at 5:30 pm (a while ago) and Google Maps still said "Closed" immediately below the name of the location. Weird.

Re: A Guide: Eating out in Bangalore

New joint called "Taaza Tiffin" opened up on Sarjapur Road next to Purva Sunshine Apts / Faasos / Kabab Mandra / Reliance Digital. Self service, eat standing up at tables type darshini.

I don't know if they're just trying to impress people because they're new, but the food is DELICIOUS. Soft idlis, crisp outside and spongy inside vadas, and the other food (dosa, puri, "mixed rice" special items - varies, pulao one day, puliogare another, pudina rice the next etc). Oh, and a very good coffee. Open kitchen too, kept quite clean.

The other nearest veg tiffin joints are up near the Total Mall on one side, and some small no name darshini about a km down the road on the other. So this, coupled with the food (and the place is small enough that as soon as you walk in, a lovely sambhar aroma hits your nose) makes the place an instant hit. Crowded at any given time.

Re: A Guide: Eating out in Bangalore

People staying near Sadanand Nagar, NGEF, Kasturi Nagar, try Tandoori and Kabab items from Kareem's (definitely not the original) - Absolutely brilliant dry items. Tried the gravy and biriyani - again not recommended. I'd recommend the Afgani Chicken.

The Rasoi (Kasturi Nagar)- Very good Veg food. Sometimes they make it too spicy though, make sure you tell them not to. Very light on the pockets too.

New Biriyani Point - Don't know why I went there, just wanted to try some quick bite - Horrendous. Stay away, far far away

Re: A Guide: Eating out in Bangalore

Happened to visit Chickpet and surrounding areas recently, did not miss an opportunity for a load of nostalgia
Was at USKB, yes the original Udupi Sri Krishna Bhavan - excellent Ravi Idly and Dosas, don't miss it if you visit the area.
Also found a small shop selling Vada Pav, Samosa, Dabeli, Kachori, etc. Vada Pavs and Samosas were excellent. This place is just after the Raja Market complex.

Nope, haven't had a chance. Thanks for letting me know.

I did eat at this place with a similar name a few weeks ago one evening, and it was ok. Wouldn't care to go there again, though.

Hadn't heard of that one before! Seems just a namesake wannabe though.
Another place I'd recommend would be Taaza Thindi in Jayanagar near the Sanjay Gandhi hospital.

Re: A Guide: Eating out in Bangalore

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but since we are usually early birds, we only experienced this recently at two restaurants:

DON'T BE LATE - THE STAFF DOESN'T LIKE IT AND THE FOOD IS NOT WHAT WAS MADE BY THE CHEF!!!

It's usually something that has been 'extended' (use the negative meaning here) to serve guest who arrive after the original lot has been consumed. [this was confirmed by the waiter]

Also, if it is something like pizza, you'll get 'hurried up pizza'. Beware!

If you do find a place selling these I would be interested. Usually get Costa's Dodol from Goa whenever I visit. Goa sausages would be nice too yum!
