Hi All.
Bumping old thread. Will be heading for dubai for a week or so by this month end. Please let me know in case of updated/changed/added input/info.

Also , dubai shopping festival ! is it really worth or just promo thing.?

Quite few treads on dubai however nothing on dubai shopping festival So hope its not repetition and seemingly no reason for thread close !


Heard lot about dubai shopping festival but never had opportunity to attend it. It is starting from 28 Jan 10 for a month. also planning to visit it.

So is it worth, or just marketing hype?

If it is good for shopping, what goods should be targeted for best deals?

atlantis (visit the aquarium)

also, you should go offroading thru the many tour operators available..

largest offroad shop is AEV at Shk Zayed Rd behind suzuki showroom..

Next month i am travelling to US via Dubai stopover of 5 hours in the airport.
I wanted to know whether are there and good shops to buy Gold chain,Bracelet,finger rings for myself in the Duty free shops in the airport.
Also please let me know whats the currency accepted? Also suggest me some good shops too. looking for detailed responses and at the earliest.

I found gold to be more expensive in Dubai. They accept Euro and US dollars. You can also convert currency in airport.

Yes, watches are cheaper in the duty free. In some shops, they can swipe your card and charge it to indian currency if you insist.

msvg I think you would be at TERMINAL 3 and yes there is a gold shop right there. I have seen only one at that terminal and they do accept cards. I know for sure they accept AED and Dollar's no idea about the other currencies.

Watches weren't really cheap, I was there a day ago. About swiping your card, yeah it's true. They can swipe and charge in AED's or INR, they usually ask you. I quite dint understand the logic though.

Perhaps not in Generic household electronics but found almost 50% price difference in case of niche Home Theatre and 40" LED.

Yes, but with a 3.1% commission. Depends on your card whether it is worth it or not. If you have a high end card with no Forex charges then it is not.

As for electronics we found computer accessories far costlier there. LCDs are definitely much cheaper. Remember in case you need warranty service in India, that may be tough to get.
