Sorry sir but this is the pure defenition of generalizing. Isn't it also possible your company failed to select good candidates in the interviews or dedicated young people are no longer applying for jobs at your company in the last 5 years?
I say this because i know a lot of people from my workplace in this age category, who will happily work more than 9hrs a day, for the salary that you have mentioned.

Re: Companies are quickly firing Gen Z employees

My experience has been different, interns that we hired (after a good screening) have been proactive, smart and hardworking. (PS: Note they are from NITs etc for full transparency)

Like any fresher just a bit of handholding and twice weekly sync to check on any issues seem to work for us.

So I would put some blame on our shoulders too if we are able to integrate “GenZ”.

Are they the representative sample of GenZ? Aren't folks in NIT/IIT the top 1% of their batch? They are the most motivated bunch among their peers. Why are we talking about them?

However, most GenZers are from the 4-tier institutions, like me. My first software salary was 15K/year in Bangalore (in 1991), later hiked to 30K/year, and it was not enough to pay rent or even have 3 meals a day in Bangalore. And over that, the salary went unpaid for many months. Still people hardly quit because it was not any better in most companies.

IT Employers rely on the fact that freshers are still dependent on parents for food and shelter. That hasn't changed even now. It takes 2-4 years before one starts getting livable wages. It was certainly true for my generation 30 years ago. I wonder why that is being cited as the reason why GenZ are different.

It appears nothing to do with money...

One question - are you based out of Kochi? If yes, then you would easily find people who would stick and work. In Hyd (can't comment on other cities), it's not easy to get people with the right mindset. If you are telling me that in the last 5 years, the company couldn't find good candidates (after interviewing, reviewing more than 1200 to 1500 profiles), then that statement is exaggerated. Most of them can work and have the stuff, the only challenge is with the mindset, outlook and perspective. You may ask why is no one mentoring them or coaching them. Most of those efforts have yielded not so satisfactory results.

Very sound observation. I may not have put it quite as you have but the overall impression is exactly the same. Tier I college kids will obviously have higher levels of motivation and skillset. Not all companies hire them. My firm hires freshers from Tier II and III cities. The first couple of years are always difficult, you need to grow from there and make your mark.

Since were were generalizing on GenZ (and not tier 3/4 specific), was just sharing my personal experience.

So it isnt just a GenZ issue, it is about mindset regardless of the generation. But I agree GenZ tend to have different priorities and not over extend at work.

Re: Companies are quickly firing Gen Z employees

Attention deficit disorder and lack of focus are common now a days not only among Gen Z but general public as well. How much of this has to do with excessive mobile and social media usage has to be investigated.! People are finding validation and dopamine on line. They don't have any motivation to interact with real people and solve real world solutions. Normal joys of life don't have impact on them anymore. Work=money for most these days.

Mobiles and tech will single handedly make humans dumb as a piece of rock after few generations. They are not even using their brains for anything these days. Gen z have exposure to this opium from their childhood and the impact is more severe. They are more in to netflix binge watch series than real life relationships.
