Cartoon Network was very much part of the childhood for younger millennials & older Gen Zs growing up. Recently, they shut down their website which made me reminisce. Back in the day, nothing felt better than getting an unexpected school holiday where you sit at home and watch cartoon network all day.

However, ever since we outgrew these cartoons, Cartoon Network has been in an eternal decline, this is due to various factors:

1) Shift to streaming which has been detrimental to cable & satellite TV in general.

2) Changing tastes of children who prefer different kinds of content in Instagram, Youtube etc.

3) Lack of creativity - the shows that replaced the iconic shows we watched during our children were just not as good - quality or content wise.

Some of my favourites include:

1) Codename: Kids Next Door

A bunch of kids are part a unique spy organisation that fights against teenagers and adults - what's not to like? The villians are just hilarious including a dentist whose main intention is to clean the Kid's teeth (horror of horrors!) and a pirate who steals candy!



2) Samurai Jack

This cartoon was in a class of its own, I'm not even sure how this ended up as a kid's show as the lore really had potential for something much bigger. I still don't know whether Jack made it back to his time.



3) Ben 10 (the classic)

A teen gets in possession of a watch while on a holiday with his grandfather & cousin that allows him to change into 10 different aliens. This along with Samurai Jack were among my favourite of all time. There are later versions where Ben grows up but I'd outgrown cartoons by that point.



4) Courage the Cowardly Dog

How this show was approved for children, I'll never know! I watched a episode recently and had trouble sleeping (I hate horror genre ). Basically the adopted dog named courage who despite being easily scared had to protect his family from supernatural phenomenon with only a talking computer assisting him (somewhat). It did teach what 'courage' really means though, sticking by your family even when you are freaking out yourself.



5) Dexter's laboratory

The premise is simple, a young genius called Dexter has a massive lab under his house which only his older sister Dede knew of, the dynamic is unmistaken for those with siblings.



6) Powerpuff girls

Three kindergarten girls fighting crime and monsters that attack the city for no apparent reason. Thinking back, the Mayor and his secretary still gets me!



7) Johnny Bravo

Very very inappropriate, certainly didn't teach us the best lessons, would've been downright cancelled now! But funny as hell!



8) The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

The grim reaper himself is held hostage by two kids !? As crazy as it sounds.



Most of these also came with iconic theme songs

And then we decided to grow up!

I was a big fan of Jonny Quest: The Real Adventures and its intro music. You surely rekindled old memories. The afternoon slot used to televise some great action-packed cartoons for teenagers, I used to prefer this slot over the rest.

It's sad to hear about the closure of Cartoon Network.

Thanks for the thread. I guess Cartoon Network was one of the first cartoon channels to be available in India. Tom & Jerry was one of the favourite shows across generations on Cartoon Network. Besides, it had many famous shows like Teen Titans Go!, Roll No 21, The Powerpuff Girls, and Ben 10. I think even the famous children's cartoon 'Chhota Bheem' was initially available on Cartoon Network.

Cartoon network was dream come true, no more rationed cartoon shows when you can have 24-hour access to global content. Although some of it was already appearing on Star TV (but only limited few hours in morning and evening)

Ah the good old days. Our childhood would've been so different if not for Cartoon Network. In the current age of video streaming, kids don't even get to experience the thrill of waiting for their favourite shows on television. Apart from the usual suspects, some of my favourites were:


Way ahead of it's time I would say. The OST is just amazing and still sounds modern and to this day, gives me the chills


This was a special on Sundays, if I remember correctly. Just a riot with all the favourite characters coming together.


Again, amazing OST, socially responsible messaging and good story lines. I still remember the lyrics of the OST.

When it comes to Cartoon Network's shows with swag, Johnny Bravo and Dexter's lab are no doubt the favorite of many (myself included) but I particularly was fond of Top Cat. If Garfield was about aloofness, Top Cat was all about smugness and street smarts.

Wow !! I loved Cartoon Network so much, I am an 80's kid

During my summer break, I used to be at my grand parents' house and start watching Cartoon Network as early as 9 or 10 AM until evening 7 or 8 PM

Am I the only Gen-Z who didn't watch Pokemon and Ben 10

In my childhood, I used to watch only Hungama and Disney TV. When my younger brother started to watch TV, he used to watch only Cartoon Network and Pogo. The only CN cartoons I appreciate are:

• Grizzy and the Lemmings
• Oggy and the Cockroaches
• Tom and Jerry
• Horrid Henry
