A SpaceX spacecraft has lifted off to rescue two astronauts stranded at the International Space Station (ISS) due to technical issues.

The Dragon spacecraft, operated by SpaceX, the private company founded by billionaire Elon Musk, is set to arrive at the ISS on Sunday.

NASA has made it clear that Sunita Williams will not be returning in February next, as anticipated earlier. The new date is slated to be sometime in March 2025.





Technicalities aside, I shudder to think of what could be going through her family members' mind. The uncertainty surrounding the return must have been emotionally draining, dragged on as it has been for this long.

Nasa astronaut Suni Williams, one of two astronauts stuck on the International Space Station, ventured outside for a spacewalk on Thursday for the first time since arriving on board seven months ago.

The live feed is going on at the moment for docking of the dragon with ISS during the last phase, at approximately 100m away from the ISS, must must watch.

Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are set to return to Earth on Tuesday (18th March) at approximately 5:57 pm Tuesday, Florida time, (3:27 am IST, March 19).

Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams are to be transported home with another American astronaut and a Russian cosmonaut aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon craft, which arrived at the ISS early Sunday.

After many a slip between the cup and the lip, the duo is finally on earth. That they had to wait for so long to catch the proverbial bus back will remain one of the cruel episodes of space history; more so because of the apparent politics involved in the process. While NASA still maintains that the astronauts were never actually stranded and hence were not rescued, we all know how the entire story panned out over the last few months.

Having worked their fingers to the bone, they must be really tired: hope the two bravehearts will recuperate and be earth-fit soon.
