Great job by the hockey team, they deserved gold, but I am still over the moon with the result. I am gonna distribute sweets in my locality today.

I just congratulated my brother who incidentally was a hockey player in his hey days, he said the same thing, that this team deserved gold, the game they displayed and he was kinda half disappointed and half joyous !! Also said, this bronze is all cuz of the efforts of Sheejesh, which I also felt is true.

Im sure the team would be disappointed to miss on the gold, but as an Indian fan I’m happy that we landed up with the bronze medal.

He has been stellar - especially in the game against Australia. But, it would be wrong to pin it to a single player. Each one played their part. E.g., Abhishek has been a revelation in the forward department, Hardik is the engine in the mid-field and what to say of the captain - the best penalty corner specialist and drag flicker in the game today, as was on display today.

Tebogo wins gold! He defends Lyles in Lyles supposedly sure-shot winning event. It just tells us how one should not be so overconfident. Only Bolt could do such antics because he is a legend! Lyles was also defeated by his teammate Bednarek, which crushed his chances of winning the double.

Sydney McLaughlin wins back-to-back Olympic Gold and stuns everyone by running under 51s which many believed was never possible. Amazed at what she has been able to achieve. It wasn’t meant for Femke Bol today, as she just won a bronze, but all in all, she would be happy with the Mixed 4 x 400 m Relay Gold.

Re: 2024 Paris Olympics – Figures, facts and interesting trivia

What a monstrous throw (92.97m) by Nadeem and that too twice crossing above 90m and creating an Olympic record!! Simply WOW

Well played Niraj (89.45m) for bagging silver, unfortunately this wasn’t his day today.

Re: 2024 Paris Olympics – Figures, facts and interesting trivia

"Neeraj Chopra fails to make it two gold medals in a row and despite the second-best throw of his career with 89.45m on his second attempt, it wasn't enough to beat Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan who crossed the 90m mark twice and set a massive Olympic record."

From Olympics Website, Neeraj Chopra has bagged the first Silver Medal for the India in French Olympics.
Congratulations Neeraj.

Re: 2024 Paris Olympics – Figures, facts and interesting trivia

@ex-innova-guy :
Lyles was not overconfident. In fact, turns out he tested positive for Covid some days before the race. That he still ran and won the bronze tells you how strong a competitor he is. Here’s the link for further read:

In our rush to judge, we often overlook the real reasons. Just like some posts back, some members felt ashamed that Antim Panghal will be deported back to India on disciplinary breach. It was her first Olympics and being young, she might have committed something which was termed as a ‘breach’ by the security agencies. Turns out, it was her naivety and the language barrier which was the main culprit. Listen to what she has to say here :

One can make their own assumption after listening to what she has to say. Now to trust her or not, is entirely another issue altogether.

Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra just won a Silver medal in Javelin. He had only one successful attempt and he made it count. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem got the gold while throwing an an Olympic record.

Neeraj played really well - esp his second attempt effort of 89+ was under pressure. However, he is yet to cross the elusive 90 meters. Arshad had done it in the past. When Arshad hit 92+ in his second attempt, it was mostly like gold is gone now. And to hit 90+ twice was like he really deserved it..

This incident seems like a failure of the process that athletes and their support staff and probably even at the entourage level should follow. I hope they would have been briefed about the do’s, dont’s and general protocols to be followed when such a big event is held in a foreign country. Impersonation is a big offence and taken seriously in most countries. There may have been a better/official process to handle this instead of what she, her sister and staff (I’m shocked they didn’t guide her!) finally decided to go ahead with.

It is also possible that the athlete insisted on taking that decision- nowadays a lot of people have 'misplaced' confidence and shocking disregard for protocol/etiquette. They feel that can do whatever is instantaneously possible. Why couldnt her sister contact an Indian team official to help with her belongings, for instance.

Congratulations Neeraj.
Congratulations yes, but I think he should not be accepting too many accolades that usually come with this (politicians, government, etc). At a personal level, I guess he would be aware that if he wants his top-flight career to go ahead , he should just keep away from media attention and focus on getting back to his best.

As a nation, we are always happy with what we get, and then the downslide begins quickly.

Really ? Mis-using a player's accreditation can be attributed to being young ? Does her speaking on it absolve the impersonation ? We want everyone to follow rules but we can have exceptions ?
I wouldn't say I am ashamed but its the kind of behaviour that is common in India and people representing the country should not do the same.
