The top list of billionaires is as of May 31, 2024. The list is updated regularly, reflecting changes in the net worth of individuals. Reports suggest that Elon Musk's wealth surge was following his acquisition of social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Musk acquired the platform for $44 billion back in October 2022.

Apart from the top 3, the list also consists of Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, Larry Page, Warren Buffett and Bill Gates.

It's bit of a junk information, isn't it? More or less the same people occupy the top 10 spots. Based on stock gains / falls, it's Elon this month, Mark Z next month, etc. Not sure why this type of news gets updated and published in so much details so regularly.

Re: Elon Musk is now the richest person in the world; Surpasses Jeff Bezos & Bernard Arnault

Of what use is this extra ordinary wealth in the hands of a few when it isn't directly used to help the bottom 50% of the world's population with the three basics of healthcare, school education and nutrition.

Some of them run foundations with a lot of publicity. Having directly dealt with three such foundations {USA based} with the request for supporting large well run charity programmes in healthcare I have discovered that they are really transaction focused - 'if I give you $ 5 million what do we get in return' They are not looking for money but for an unusual and unrealistic degree of fame that an NGO focused on the poor cannot always provide. The fact that thousands upon thousands of lives will be saved is irrelevant. I once had, in 2018, the country head of one of these tell me that, quote, "I am never going to fund free healthcare for the most needy - they must pay their fair share" unquote.

I guess they help Forbes fill up its pages.
