Re: 2024 T20 World Cup Thread

Wow wow wow, New Zealand bundled out for 75 while chasing 159 against mighty Afghan.

And Srilanka is on the verge of early elimination from the World Cup.

Quoting myself.
This World cup has been a hit so far.
USA drowning Pak.
Canada beating Ireland.
Bangladesh beating SL in a close one.
Afg bundling NZ out for 75.

2 Super overs already and last super over in T20 World cup was in 2012.

This 20 teams format is already reaping rewards for ICC and the game overall. With Pak and NZ in serious threat of getting eliminated and USA and Afghanistan being big contenders to move to Super 8.

2 big games coming up.
Aus vs Eng today and India vs Pak tomorrow.
Gonna be fun.

Afghanis are gonna be a big threat in this WC, more so with their potent spin attack and surfaces are going to be conducive too in the Carribean. And they've a proven batting lineup as we saw in the 50 over WC.

Some big surprises on the anvil, this time around. The big boys are gonna feel the heat as this WC is more about conquering conditions and not hitting through the line per se. Anchor men like VK, Williamson et al will have a role to play.

Interestingly, one of their bowlers allegedly got caught in ball tampering against USA.
Actually one of the main reasons the art of reverse swing has been lost is because reverse swing happens with old ball. In ODI initially only one ball was used for all 50 overs and around the 40th over the old ball would start reversing. But since many years, ODI's start with two new balls on each end. As aa result the ball never gets old, or reaches that 40th over mark. Hence there is no reverse swing whatsoever.

And in T20, there is no scope of genuine reverse swing given the short duration of an inning.

Afghanistan is my favourite pick for this WC T20, how well they play and execute their plan.

Rashid Khan leads from the front, and quick bowling changes correctly.

Be wary of these Associates Cricketing Nations, they are no walk overs.

Re: 2024 T20 World Cup Thread

Sporting or bowler friendly pitches make T-20 matches competitive, this is being proved in this WC. These bowler friendly pitches give a fair chance to sides like Bangladesh Afganistan who have decent bowling but not very great hitter batsmen. This WC may throw up some more surprises in the coming matches.

Re: 2024 T20 World Cup Thread

The World cup matches have started delivering thrillers but it feels less interest is generated compared to previous editions. While it is good that more nations are participating but you can see empty seats for all of them in stadiums, even India vs Ireland suffered with it. Maybe now people will tune into associate nation matches. Wonder how much this world cup is doing interms of viewership.
But one thing is for sure, ICC must be sweating right now because of these results. England haven't won yet, Sri Lanka looks out too. Nz is in tricky situation and if Pak looses today then they might be on the way out. ICC planned all these groups in such a way that heavyweights reach super8, but looks like 3 teams atleast will fail to make the cut. That itself will be disaster for them. They certainly don't want a repeat of 2007 WC. Without Pak, SL and Eng in next rounds, viewership and interest will go down pretty quickly.

Re: 2024 T20 World Cup Thread

What exactly is Pandya doing? Leaving balls at one side and giving more strike to a tail-ender in crucial 15-17 overs. Arshdeep Singh is batting better than these so-called-stars

The optimistic me is taking this as a good omen. Loosing to Pakistan might give them the required jolt to perform better in rest of the world-cup

Re: 2024 T20 World Cup Thread

Are we having a practice session with Pak?

Pant trying his luck on almost all the deliveries he’s facing, and the other batsmen (Dube and Jadeja) having a lazy Sunday outing at the pitch.

Arshdeep seems more intent driven than Pandya at the moment.

Only the rain gods can save India now.

Re: 2024 T20 World Cup Thread

Team selection was fundamentally flawed. Dubey just doesn’t have the game to play on such pitches. They should have played Jaiswal instead, opening, with Kohli coming at one down.

Will have to bowl and field really well to make it a fight, else Pakistan will win this. 140 world have been a good score. Don’t think 119 will be enough.

Even the God's don't want to bet on India right now!! As one gentleman said on this thread above, India needs to feel the jolt of losing to Pakistan to have their mind in the right place for upcoming matches.

PS: First time in T20I history that Pak has bowled out India completely. Sad state of affairs.

As much as Pant scored the highest, he is to be blamed for 119 and not 139! He was irresponsible throughout. Lucky that Pak fielders had Vaseline on their hands.

Re: 2024 T20 World Cup Thread

No point having Kuldeep and Chahal if management is not going to pick them on such pitches and that too against important opposition. Atleast one of them should have played instead of axar/Jadeja who are both exactly similar players.
