Re: BBC's Top Gear TV show has been cancelled for the "foreseeable future"

The Holy Trinity was the reason I started liking cars. That show is the reason I am on team-bhp. Without it, I won't have developed any mechanical sympathy. I once took a Celerio to Rohtang pass and when it hit a big pothole on the way, I had to tap gently on the dashboard and apologise to the car for driving it carelessly. It all started when I was a kid and used to watch this show. They are the reason I wash my car every week, instead of trimming my beard or getting a proper haircut on time.

BBC should've started with a new presenter and then developed the show from there, instead of trying to replace old three presenters with new three presenters and hoping that people won't notice.

IMO, ThrottleHouse channel on youtube produces quite good content related to cars. That is the only content that I have gotten to like almost as much after the Top Gear that I used to watch. Still have all the Videos of all seasons that I sometimes rewatch.

RIP OG TopGear

Re: BBC's Top Gear TV show has been cancelled for the "foreseeable future"

Makes no difference to me and I would say good riddance. The day Clarkson, Hammond and May left Top Gear it is like a body without soul. I never watched a single Episode of Top Gear after they left.

As other BHPians rightly mentioned I can only think of Clarkson's famous remark in this case.

Re: BBC's Top Gear TV show has been cancelled for the "foreseeable future"

The original top gear had presenters such as Quentin Wilson and Tiff Needel who were as good as Clarkson and certainly better than May and Hammond.

They could have brought life back to the show, put together a different format and held audiences together.

They left Top Gear long before the trio did and in my books, TG was never the same after they left.

Wonder why the Beeb didnt bring them back?

Re: BBC's Top Gear TV show has been cancelled for the "foreseeable future"

The BBC should have got the new presenters doing car reviews. Basic simple car reviews. This is what Top Gear used to be until their presenters developed enough on-screen chemistry. They even fired a presenter for poor chemistry and replaced him with James May. Then, they started moving to entertaining studio discussions, specials and weird challenges.

The problem with new Top Gear was that they put three brand new people into a show that was doing all of that without letting them develop any chemistry first.

Re: BBC's Top Gear TV show has been cancelled for the "foreseeable future"

Clarkson did not have ‘chemistry’ with anyone.

He had issues wherever he went and was apologizing to a lot of folks over incidents he created during the show. Finally he did the same with the TG bosses too.

You had ‘chemistry’ with Clarkson if you played second fiddle to him and allowed him to boss you. He bossed over Hammond and May, gave them belittling nicknames and mocked them. These two stomached his behavior so as to remain on the show and got to benefit in the bargain. Its a different matter that the bossing and mocking appealed to audiences.

That wouldn’t work with equally powerful personalities such as Quentin and Tiff and so they were elbowed out of TG. If Tiff was around, there would have been no need for a Stig. He and Quentin would have been able to hold their own against Clarkson. Thats not something that Clarkson would have wanted.

Check out this video of the Mclaren F1 by Tiff with Clarkson’s attempt at humour in the end falling flat.

In later years Tiff’s role went to the Stig - the Stig was faceless and didn’t speak and hence posed no threat to Clarkson. A racing driver who could speak well would have taken a lot of the shene from Clarkson.

Re: BBC's Top Gear TV show has been cancelled for the "foreseeable future"

A sad day for Top Gear fans. Though I was no regular, the show was a treat for automobile lovers worldwide. About the accident and huge compensation/ settlement amount paid to the host, the BBC Top Gear's culpability is debatable vis-a-vis the "aggrieved" host.

Quote:
"All other Top Gear activity remains unaffected by this hiatus, including international formats, digital, magazines, and licensing."
All other activities of Top Gear are OK, but they could soon consider resuming the show after their "lick your wounds" and "compensation/settlement shock" phases come to an end.

Re: BBC's Top Gear TV show has been cancelled for the "foreseeable future"

Top Gear Suomi (finland) has been in broadcast in a local channel for a few months now.

I don't understand Finnish and hence gave it a miss but the 'Colorful' trio are quite a bunch with great Camaraderie which is good for entertainment.

Ismo Leikola is a very popular Stand up Comedian, Christopher Strandberg is an actor and Teemu Selänne is a popular Ice Hockey player.

Expectations of many TV viewers seem to have focused especially on how the presenters of the Finnish version will survive. In particular, Teemu Seläntee is receiving praise, and he is being proposed for the role of the so-called main presenter, which was played by Clarkson.
