It's very dangerous to keep a replica with blanks since in case you are in a situation of self defence the other person may assume it's a real one and act accordingly and your response can only be noise.

Most gun shops have replicas. They are manufactured by the same companies which make the real ones. Looks and feels like the real guns and fires blanks as well.
Cost 50K+. Used mainly for movie shoots.

You can try indiansforguns.com. I am not sure whether you will get a full list but you can get some pointers.

Re: Gun Ownership

Hi guys,

Need your advise on buying a air gun. I'm in Saudi and would like to buy a good brand and take it back to Kerala with me (by sea cargo). Can you please give me your advise on my below queries?:

1. Which is the best brand?
2. Which model (spring type or pneumatic pump)
3. Which caliber (0.177 or .22)
4. I do understand that 0.22 need a license to use now in India, any issue if I import it?

Appreciate the experts advise.

Thanks

There are many options that you can explore but my advise would be
1) Benjamin Marauder
2) FX - Dream Line Classic or Field target

.22 or .25 are any way the best, but with rules unclear it is better to go for .177. Pneumatic any day.

You can have .177 and there are module s you can change bore to .22

How do you plan to get it?
If you have to pass Customs then you have to be a part of govt approved Shooting club (sports), with the club ID and a letter you are allowed to get .17, but as always it is very unclear.

Re: Gun Ownership

Hello BHPians,

Looking to buy an air gun in Bengaluru.
  • Any suggestions on the recommended shops to purchase.
  • Do we need any license / permission from the authorities?
  • Which brand is recommended?

Thanks

You can buy online from 10kya.com, I have bought an air pistol from them. You've to upload a copy of address and identity proof. The only bore available is .177, which doesn't need a license.
Precihole is an affordable brand they carry, not sure if they stock any other.

  1. Buy Online, there are many retailers shipping now.
  2. No license required for .177, there was some restriction on .22 though, not aware of any development.
  3. Precihole has a Nitro Piston break barrel type, Nitro piston is better than Spring Piston.

Thank you for the input. Is there any specific model you can able to recommend which is trouble free and smooth working?

If I were to buy, I would buy the Athena NX200, 450MM barrel and maybe buy the Peep sights for plinking.

I would advice you to look at kovai shop (Manipal Center) before you look online, as in most cases "you will outgrow your first airgun soon after you purchase".
Recommendation would be to see if you can enroll yourself into Karnataka Rifle Association.

What is the purpose and where do you intend to use the gun?

Karnataka Rifle Association is the govt body, but there are plenty of private shooting ranges in Bangalore which offer basic training and can guide you properly. I am suggesting private because the entry process is easier and you will find something near your place of stay. Once you know the basics, you can decide whether you want to take this up seriously and join KFA. If Sarjapur side works for you, I can suggest you a good training facility. I did their basic 10m shooting course early this year. Planning to do the advanced course once the pandemic situation improves.

As Rovergen said, you will outgrow the first gun fast. Going via a training center allows you to try different guns and decide wisely. The downside however is that you will stop looking at cheap Indian guns and want only imported (expensive) guns.

Re: Gun Ownership

There is well-known fantasy in USA, it is known as "good guy with a gun".

Last week Police killed a good guy with a gun, because they couldn't see his "good guy" name tag.

Always found it difficult to reconcile how a nation that is a leader in several fields is so regressive in this one particular aspect. Also a good lesson on how a well-funded political (essentially) campaign can become corrosive to a society as a whole.

Boys who fantasize about guns (and people who think that anyone and everyone should/can have guns is mentally still in their boyhood!) by looking at the way guns are depicted in movies or FPS video games don't realize the amount of, regular, and strict training those who are legally authorized to carry guns like policemen and armed forces personnel undergo. You are taught to respect your weapon, not just to pull it out and start firing. There is protocol that I've seen even at the school/college-NCC level to merely test fire an ancient .303 rifle. That was one training where even the smallest amount of fooling around, playing around with the weapon, or joking around was not tolerated one bit. I can only imagine what the systems and protocols are for cops and army recruits.

Certainly some people need to be authorized to carry guns to protect borders and to keep the peace in civil society. But they need to be thinking, trained professionals. Not trigger-happy 'gun enthusiasts' or macho boys.
