DIY: Scale Models built using Plastic Kits

Hello friends,

I would like to introduce you to the hobby of scale modelling. These are models made from plastic kits that are assembled, painted and detailed by hand. I will show you some of my work. Please feel free to add yours if you have made the models yourself. I am starting with a 1/144 scale DC-3 Dakota built under the Indian Air Force Scheme. The kit is from a company called Roden.

These are very nice indeed and it is a great
Hobby to have to work with one’s hands and build things.
The traditional and well known ones in this space are Airfix, which I believe is now a part of the larger conglomerate which owns Hornby Trains and Meccano as well. Then there is Revell which is famous and Taron too.
Of course Lego and Lego Technic are there but not quite the same.

Nice work there.

The only kit model I made was a 1/24 Nissan Skyline R34 from Tamiya. I dont have many pics on my phone from the build. The effort involved as well as materials needed, including paint, clear coat etc meant I havent yet embarked on another Aoshmia kit for a Subaru WRX which I had bought. As a first timer I wasnt able to get the finish I was looking for, so it took a back seat for the moment.

Must compliment on you the quality of your paint work done by hand. Congratulations. I like that MiG-29 especially. Please keep sharing.

There are quite a few aircraft model enthusiasts on this forum. Our work/collections are displayed/discussed here - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/shift...nks-ships.html (Scale Models - Aircraft, Battle Tanks & Ships)

We cover aircraft warships and tanks. Best of luck. It is a wonderful hobby. I've been at it since the early to mid-1970s.

Re: DIY: Scale Models built using Plastic Kits

Fantastic thread!

By the way how do you source these? Is it easy to find kits like Tamiya, Fujimi, Aoshima...and spare components like paint, sand paper, glue in India?

I was looking to buy one some months ago, but i could only find an old F50 revell kit. (On scale arts India website).

Maya Toys (Mayatoys.in) sells Revell kits. I don't know about paints and painting supplies though.

I find hobby stores in India over priced, there are a lot of online stores abroad who ship to India. Hobbylinkjapan, Hobbyeasy and luckymodel are a few I regularly buy from. But I must warn you about Indian Post and customs the parcel can some times months to reach you. and also attract custom duty.

Excellent work I think I have seen some of your models on forums like BritModeler or perhaps Scalemates. The Mig-29UPG pictures I referenced while building my own. I used to build scale model kits around the 1990s till early 2001-2 as a child. Restarted after 20 years during Covid.

Here are some of my 1/72 Indian Air Force / Navy models:

Made these two 1:48 Su-27s in the last one year, they are huge!

1/35 Indian Army AMX-13

The AMX-13 is a French light tank. During the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War, India deployed AMX-13 tanks to oppose the initial armor onslaught of Operation Grand Slam in the Chhamb-Jaurian area and also in the Battle of Asal Uttar.
In the Battle of Assal Uttar, on September 8–10, 1965, in Asal Uttar (Khem Karan, Punjab, India), a regiment of AMX-13, the 8th Light Cavalry, along with a regiment each of Centurions and M4 Shermans, fought off and defeated a Pakistani armored offensive comprising five regiments of M48 Patton tanks and one regiment of M24 Chaffee tanks.

This is a Tamiya kit. and the decals used are from Star Decals. Tamiya paints were used.

The tank depicted was used by the 8th Light Cavalry during the Battle of Khem Karan in 1965.

Haroun it works out to approximate 50% of the Value of the shipment. but its a hit or miss most of the time if one is lucky they don't charge duty.
