Quote:
Noida International Airport (IATA: DXN, ICAO: VIND), is an upcoming international airport being constructed near Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar District, Uttar Pradesh in India, which will serve the National Capital Region (NCR). Once completed, it will be an alternative to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi by relieving its high and rising traffic load, and is planned to be India's and Asia's largest airport. The Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) will be the implementing agency on behalf of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The airport is to be developed through a public-private partnership model (PPP). In 2019, Flughafen Zürich AG, the operator of Zurich Airport in Switzerland won the bid to build and operate the airport for 40 years.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is also constructing a 31-kilometre long (19 mi) greenfield highway from the airport to Sector-65, Faridabad on Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. The proposed plan in Jewar is to build a two-runway airport by 2024, and at a future date, to expand it into a 7,200 acres (2,900 ha) eight-runway airport. According to the plan, the airport will handle 1.2 crore (12 million) passengers per annum initially and up to 6-12 crore passengers per annum, after its expansion over a period of 30 years. It will be the third commercial airport in the National Capital Region, after Indira Gandhi International Airport and Hindon Airport.

Re: Noida International Airport gets IATA code DXN

All the best to NCR folks. Meanwhile Punekars are still searching for land to make our PXN (not used by IATA) dream. The politico- real estate nexus at the state level has sent people's dreams in a wild goose all over the region. In fact I wonder why IAF has to hold on to the airbase so dearly. Can they not shift operations elsewhere? Is proximity to Mumbai such a strategic need in the current era?

Noida International Airport is supposed to get direct connectivity with Indira Gandhi International Airport as the UP Government has announced a rapid rail connection between both airports.

Can’t say about ridership on the Meerut - Delhi but this surely can be a good link for the RRTS. Not just for the Airport but also for the Real estate around the new Airport. Alwar track is being realigned to pass through NH in Gurgaon, so it might be a little better for folks in Gurgaon to catch flights from so far.

Re: Noida International Airport gets IATA code DXN

DXN just seems like a random set of characters (except D for Delhi?). I guess IATA is running out of meaningful combinations.

Did Navi Mumbai airport get its IATA code yet?

Same nonsense in Chennai as well.

No, no comparison. Chennai has had a civilian airport for decades. It can atleast ciope with current traffic.
In Pune if you land a A330 you cant park it. If you somehow do, you cant push it back for taxying. The airport- no, the civilian enclave is a joke on the increasingly aspirational Puneite who stays in a city of megapolis like ambitions but has mediocre urban infrastructure.

So, Noida (DXN) goes closer to Dubai (DXB) than to Delhi (DEL).

Connectivity to Jewar airport is being developed at rapid pace, including connect to Delhi-Mumbai Expressway via Faridabad with interchange over Yamuna Expressway.

Re: Noida International Airport gets IATA code DXN

I know a bit on how they test planes. Be it prototypes, regular production runs, or even after major maintenance.

I would love to learn a bit more on how they work up to opening an airport. So many different people, disciplines and organisations in place.

Does anybody have insights how they certify an airport for operational readiness.

Thanks
Jeroen
