Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

There was a time when you’d know the location of all ATMs in your area and every time you stepped out, someone from your family would ask you to withdraw cash. Cut to now, I don’t even remember my last visit to an ATM. Cashless transactions have taken over and UPI (Unified Payment Interface) is king. It has truly revolutionized the way payments are made in India.

The other day I was at a traffic signal when a roadside beggar approached the car and asked for money. As usual, I didn’t have any cash and told him so. With a sly grin on his face, he pulled out a QR code from his pocket. From roadside chaiwalas to high-end night clubs to traffic cops to your neighborhood grocery store. Everyone is accepting UPI payments.

So, here's the big question : Which is your preferred UPI payment app and why?

I have been a long-time user of Google Pay only, so voting for it. Also started using Samsung Pay for another bank account recently.

Google Pay Pros
• Plenty of rewards
• Easy and clean user interface
• Allows multiple accounts
• Chat feature to request payment
Google Pay Cons
• Occasional difficulty in payment processing
• Very few usable rewards
Samsung Pay Pros
• Contactless Payments – Tap your phone on the card machine to pay (Technically not UPI, but a good feature)
• Easy to use and quick access on Samsung phones
Samsung Pay Cons
• Limited options for redeeming rewards
Never used PhonePe but apparently, a majority of the population uses it :

I voted for Gpay for ease of use and occasional fun with few games which earn rewards in terms of money, though the success rate on PhonePe is higher.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

After trying Cred, I haven't looked at any other app. My no. 2 vote would go to Gpay, and no. 3 Paytm.

Google Pay was notorious for debiting cash from account but not crediting to the merchant/payee citing some issues. Switched to PhonePe and in two years faced the same issue only once. Now I use GPay only when the payee is not in PhonePe.

This is true for G Pay as well. I use it regularly. In addition, G Pay can also be used for payment through credit card just by scanning QR code similar to UPI.

Voted for G Pay.

I use Gpay, Phonepe and Amazon Pay. Of the three, I would rank Gpay and Amazon Pay, 1 and 2,and Phonepe a distant 3rd. Amazon Pay, I link it with my Amazon Pay ICICI card on the Amazon site and use it for shopping, booking tickets and almost everything. Gpay I use it at storefronts. Both offer significant rewards, with Gpay scoring over Amazon Pay in ease of use.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I use PayTM wallet for small purchases - very convenient, no pin, and payment is not from the bank account. I dont do auto top-up to the wallet.

For larger payments and where wallet is not there, GPay.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I very seldon use UPI but when I do use it, it is via my ICICI Bank app linked to an account that mostly has a 4 digit balance only. I still have trust issues when it comes to using my own bank account for such transactions. Almost everything I do is via credit card.

Hoping that UPI via credit card (free) becomes mainstream soon.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Paytm. I'm not sure if it's the best out there but it's become a habit for me to use the Paytm app.

How did I get to Paytm? I used to love Gpay but then the rewards dried out while Paytm still had some cashbacks for fuel etc. Now that's dried up too and I'm not too bothered to change apps to save a few pennies. Besides, I hardly remeber to use any of these discount cards given today making the reward system pointless for me personally.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

PayTM only as it is the only one that provides me Postpaid facility and not deducting money from my own account. Although there is limitation that I can transfer using postpaid using PayTm QR code only but that is limitation is okay to me. I am still wary of directly using apps that can send money out of my account using 4 digit pin!

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I use Gpay a lot. That's my preferred mode of UPI payment.

I faced issues with PayTM a few times and now I use it only for my FasTag.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Voted for PayTM. Used to have Gpay. But found that it had issues often. The payment is delayed or failed.

PayTM is really fast that way and is my current go-to app for UPI. Didnt bother about getting a third one.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Switched to PhonePe a long time back from Gpay. GPay was absolutely unreliable. Payments would get stuck with alarming regularity. At least 30% of the time. And I do a LOT of UPI transactions.

The switch to Phonepe is not for any kind of rewards but for reliability.

As far as I remember, I have not faced a single "stuck in limbo" payment as far as I can remember in the past 2+ years.

If a payment is going to fail due to any reason, either it tells me in advance to not use a particular bank for the payment, or doesn't let me use UPI at all and I use a different payment method. Only once did the payment actually fail and I received the refund in mere seconds.

I also use it to recharge my Fastag. Never any issues.

PhonePe is the market leader in terms of users and transaction volume for good reason. They have really done well.

I don't even bother to scratch the scratch cards. I have better things to do in life .

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

The only app I have used for UPI/QR based transactions is through my ICICI bank's iMobile Pay. For small amount transactions I don't need to enter PIN as it goes through my fingerprint based login authentication itself. And never had any transaction failures till date.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I used PayTM extensively during my visits to India, and it was a breeze using it, with almost no failures. I once got locked out of my account, apparently for entering the incorrect PIN, during which i used the ICICI iMobile app for UPI payments. It was nowhere as convenient or quick as PayTM.

I didnt try out the other UPI apps, so will reserve my judgement on those.
