Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

To be honest, I hate using UPI, especially for merchant payments. Although it works well for transferring money to friends, relatives, maids etc.

UPI may be good for merchants due to low MDR, but not so good for consumers like us. It is extremely low rewarding. Credit cards is usually my mainstay mode of payment due to rewards associated with it. Credit card industry is also evolving quite well with plethora of options such as Infinia, Magnus in premium category to Amazon Pay ICICI etc. in the base category. These cards are quite rewarding compared to any UPI payment app currently.

I use GPay only to send money to friends/acquaintances. Merchants who can afford the MDR like Star Bazar, Dmart, Amazon, Big Basket etc., are all credit card transactions irrespective of the amount. Only the small local vendors like the vegetables seller is paid through UPI.

This not only benefits my card rewards (however small) but also helps UPI platform by not clogging it up with transactions that can be completed elsewhere.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I am a huge fan of google pay. I've been using it since 2019. But these days Gpay transactions fail sometimes. Phonepe is my second preferred UPI app. Very rarely I also use slice UPI app.

I use BHIM exclusively since COVID era. Works pretty well. I was using Amazon Pay earlier but found their QR scanning is either slow or does not work properly, so stopped using it.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I am a huge fan of Phonepay for the following reasons :

- It is Indian.

- Easiest to use and interface

- Need not give location access. My Gpay asks for it.

- Never had a failed transaction unless and until there is a problem with the bank.

- Can plan on investments (mutual funds) though the service charges are higher compared to zerodhra or other platforms.

- Need to put money in wallet.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Being a fintech enthusiast, it's like asking me to pick my favorite child TBF all major UPI apps have their pros and cons.
I don't mind the rewards these days unless it is a direct cashback. I particularly use Paytm, PhonePe, GPay, Cred & have dedicated use case for each of them and strictly stick onto them as much as possible. Which are,

Paytm - Day to day transactions like Swiggy, Zepto, Movies, Milk shop, Roadside coconut shop, Supermarkets, Bakery etc.,.

PhonePe - For bank to bank transfers (self, family & friends)

Gpay - Contactless NFC Payments. Have mapped 2 of my most used Credit cards. Use them specially while fueling. There's a funny story, My anxiety kicks in especially while fueling. As we need to check for zero, be aware of fuel 'bro' antics, right fuel, need to note down ODO and fuel prices for that day and finally the always in a hurry car guy waiting for his turn to fuel next, scoffing and honking and what not. All combined, i sent the wrong amount twice (fuel station was kind enough to rectify it). Swore not to do all by myself. Hence NFC through GPay all the time

Cred - Utility Bill Payments - Electricity, Water, Gas, DTH, FasTag, CC Bill etc., their rewards are quite good IMHO

I maintain a Payments Bank account for all the UPI transactions and at no point topped it more than 15K. I'll top it up by another 15k when it runs out of balance. Rinse and Repeat. This I learnt from using Suica cards in Japan where max it can hold is like 20k yen at any given point and you are stand to lose is that much only in case of a fraudulent merchant. This way primary/salary account balances are not exposed to outside elements

Same. I think cred is the fastest to scan and pay. They also allow you to check your bank account balance easily.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Was using Google Pay consistently. However, its reliability had become a question mark in the past year with a few payments not getting completed both to the merchant as well as to another google pay account. Hence shifted to PhonePe at least for merchant payments.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I was a heavy GPay user till a month. I stuck to it even with the horrible failure rate because I liked the UI. Switched to PhonePe. Haven't faced a single issue, although I don't like their cluttered UI.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I have Gpay, Paytm, Phonepe, iMobile and another BHIM app. I use Gpay extensively, have enabled NFC in it. So I just have to show my phone on top of the card reader. It's so convenient, no need to open Gpay app, no need for internet connection, no need to carry cards! I'm hooked to NFC based payment.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Well even though I know how good the apps specified in the poll are with cashbacks and offers, you must keep in mind that they provide you with these offers because they get access to huge amounts of your personal data including your financial habits! Not gonna trust any of these apps with getting direct sneek peek into my spending habits.

This is the reason why I use BHIM UPI app which is a government app and hopefully doesn't sell your data!

It's true that the BHIM doesn't have as fluid and responsive UI but it's improving and is great for daily use too.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Primarily phone pe user. I was using google pay very often but at one point in time transactions were failing half of the times. Moved to Phone pe which has a much better hit rate..

Quite astonished that no one mentioned Bharat Pe even once here, given all the antics we have seen from the founders to chairman of board in the recent past. I thought it was way more prevalent !

Respect all the points you mentioned but Phone Pe just has an Indian name. As far as I know, it's owned by Flipkart which in turn is a wholly owned subsidiary of Walmart Inc. based in the USA. Please correct me if I am wrong.

As far as I know Bharat Pe only caters to Merchants as it's business model is only B2B and not B2C. So, we as consumers can't use it to make payments.

It's only that merchants can use it's QR codes in order to recieve payments through UPI.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Others. Never used any app based payment. The bank UPIs are more than sufficient and then, used only when cards are not accepted. Bank UPI is also mostly with friends and colleagues or small vendors (I realised as I was typing, that maybe because the card points don't matter in small payments).
But like Xerox, Gpay has become the buzz for cashless/mobile payments!

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I prefer Paytm, 2nd google pay and then ICICI mobile app.

Paytm because it was first and fast. Gpay was way too buggy in initial days. Hence got accustomed with Paytm. Other benefits, wallet and fastag linked with it. Tried BHIM for some time, but was not intuitive when it was BHIM 1.0. Did not download any other upi app ever, not a fan of keep on registering for different services/apps.
