So if I scan a PhonePe QR code using PayTM, will it be deducted from UPI Lite account? (Its not the case with normal PayTM wallet)

Yes, you are right. Max cap of Rs.200 per transaction and one can have a max of Rs.2000 in the PayTM lite prepaid account.

So what will be the difference between UPI lite and this? Both will serve the same purpose right?

So how will a PayTM lite and PayTM wallet coexist?

If I want to pay Rs.150 and scan a PayTM QR, how will it get deducted if I'm having balance in both?

After doing a scan, on the payment authentication page, you can choose the account to be debited wallet/upi/upilite. I see mine defaults to UPI lite.

The PayTM wallet does not have limit of 2000 rupees and also no max per transaction amount cap. The main restriction is the amount in PayTM wallet can be used only on PayTM QR codes whereas the UPI lite can be used on any vendor QR code. The amount will be deducted from lite wallet and max value of per transaction is Rs.200

UPI opening up for PPI (Pre paid Instruments) is long overdue. Current wallet architecture doesn't allow any interoperability with other wallets. This would have been the natural course after digital push but UPI came and disrupted. Essentially we jumped a step. Now with opening up of this you can pay UPI backed bank account especially merchants from wallet irrespective of UPI. No restriction on Full KYC wallet but merchant pays the MDR. So only big players will take it.

UPI lite is a different use case as a on device wallet meant for small transaction. It is just UPI but envisaged to work even without proper internet connection. Settlement mechanism is different. In future this will be the mainstay as slowly UPI goes the Rupay way of a fully chargeable interbank transaction mechanism.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

With UPI becoming the de facto standard, how do people manage smaller denominations like 5, 10, 20 and 50? These are very had to come by. Every shop tells 'no change.please scan'

I am finding it difficult to tip these days. Also how do you manage on buses?

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Have any credit cards been already linked for UPI payments?

I'm very keen to move to this mode, as it avoids direct linking with bank accounts + scope to dispute any fraudulent payments with the card issuer.

Activated Paytm Lite too but not used it yet.

As per Ads from NPCI, RuPay cards have been linked to UPI payments as of now. But rest of the networks too should follow suite, may take time.
But I haven;t found a way to get RuPay credit card

Does Paytm Lite have a wallet option?
If I pay any QR code with Paytm Lite, will the money be deducted from linked bank account or from the wallet?

PayTM lite is a wallet with limited balance. It can be loaded using UPI at once and payment can be made for small transactions. This is mainly for patchy network, it works offline.

Now I' able to use Axis Bank RuPay Credit Card(since Apr-19) with BHIM/PhonePe/PayTM UPI.
It works fine for normal merchant paymanets.
Wallet load, Send to Savings account are not allowed. Yet to use widely. Also, yet to integrate with Samsung Wallet UPI, which is my go-to UPI app.

No, not on Samsung Wallet BHIM UPI right now. Only found option to add via BHIM,PhonePe and PayTM. With Samsung Wallet UPI it would be great to have. I have called Samsung support and raised a ticket, but no timelines.

.
Correct. I am using UPI lite wallet in PayTM for all below 200 rupees UPI transactions. This is great as it doesn't clutter my bank statement.

However one observation - it works good when I send money to mobile number, contact, UPI ID or scan merchant but when I scan a UPI QR code from individual, it doesn't show UPI lite option and directly goes to UPI. I couldn't understand the reason as I believe individual QR code is same as mobile number to receive money. Any one has any experience like this?

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I ditched Google Pay & moved to PayTM. Reasons:

- UPI Lite. Google Pay's development pace & new feature rollouts are too slow. I use UPI Lite for all small payments via the PayTM app itself.

- PayTM wallet. Can't believe Google Pay has no wallet. My PayTM wallet is used in Uber, Zomato & Swiggy.

- Never had a failed payment in PayTM.
