Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Does Indian UPI (Google Pay, Amazon Pay etc) work outside India? Say I take my phone which has Google Pay to USA/UK, will it work there? If yes, does the SIM have to be in the phone and have international roaming enabled?

I don't believe it will work. Because Google pay asks for location to perform a transaction. My friends who are in abroad with Indian SiM told they couldn't transact with Google pay. I don't know about other UPI apps or personal experience.

I’m using Amazon Pay linked to ICICI account. Since last 2 years, it is working like a charm in India, Europe and USA. Never faced any issue except in India when some ppl give you only gpay mobile number and no UPI id or QR code.

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Singapore’s PayNow were integrated last week to enable real-time funds transfer between residents of both countries.

The limit per day is Singapore $1,000 approximately Rs. 60,000.

You could perhaps work on Wi-Fi if you don't have international roaming.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I stick to PayTM for two reasons,

1) I use their postpaid, which is very smooth in terms of payment with no pin requirement, and most of the vendors accept Paytm(it works only with the Paytm QR code) and it works with many of the online merchants as well. very smooth and clean bank account statements by paying the whole amount once. one negative is that you've that running credit with it.

2) and for those non Paytm QR codes, I still use my PayTM UPI, this helps me track me all petty transactions in one interface and gives me a good insight into how I am blowing my money in the multiples of 18

and I find PayTM is much smooth comparatively. bonus, their cash back points are okay deal with 1000 points equals Rs 10, but's steady at least.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I'm not sure many people here realized this. Irrespective of which UPI app you are using - be it PayTM, Google Pay, PhonePe or any bank apps, the screen where we type UPI PIN is the same.

That PIN screen & it's validation is directly handled by NPCI only. You can know more about NPCI here. https://www.npci.org.in/who-we-are/about-us

NPCI also operates IMPS (available in all bank apps), RuPay and the NFS (National Financial Switch) which is the network of shared ATMs. Besides many other services.

So it doesn't matter which third party or bank app we use, the UPI PIN validation procedure is the same.

Yes, I did mention this in my post regarding security of PIN.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/shift...ml#post5483658 (Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?)

Only the bank's app where you hold the a/c can use OTP instead of PIN. Others must use PIN, that, too, they can't see the PIN and the apps are scrutinized by NPCI for this.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I am liking the PayTM lite UPI. It is basically like a wallet where one can preload any amount of money and use that money to scan and pay. The amount gets deducted from the UPI lite account and not from the bank account. Works with other vendor QR codes as well.

Cap is Rs.200 per transaction. Most of my transactions are under this amount anyway. Advantage is in case there is an issue at the bank end, which happens quite often with SBI, I can still make UPI transactions as long as there is enough money in the UPI lite account/wallet.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Guys, a noob query.

For certain amounts (small change & tiny amounts), I would rather pay from my PayTM wallet than my bank account. However, every time I scan a UPI bar code, the PayTM app only gives me the "pay from bank account" option.

1. How do I make UPI payments from the PayTM wallet?

2. I believe PhonePe allows you to keep a wallet too. Can I make UPI payments from the PhonePe wallet?

Thanks

The wallet cannot be used for UPI payments, however, similar to the paytm wallet you can now load money into upi lite in the paytm app itself and make payments without having to key in the pin code.
As mentioned by sagarpadki in previous post, the max limit for a transaction is 200 and a max of 2000 can be loaded into it.

From PayTM wallet you can pay only to another PayTM wallet because wallet is not part of UPI. Merchants in PayTM can accept wallet as well UPI if they linked their bank account. Other UPI merchants can't accept PayTM wallet payment.

UPI needs to a bank account in the background. You can create a UPI ID through PayTM but it will be linked to your Bank account. Then you can pay using PayTM as front end but it will deduct money from your bank account.

Till now only exception I am aware of is ICICI Pockets wallet which has its own UPI. This is a wallet which you can load and gets you an UPI ID for wallet xxxx@pockets. This way it is clean and my bank account is not exposed. But the app is horrible to use. So I use PayTM wallet when there is PayTM wallet accepted. When there is low value UPI needed, I use Pockets. If you have ICICI account, it is very easy to set up without further KYC. HDFC Bank Payzapp wallet based UPI is work in progress and hope it will be better

Paytm recently started providing a solution that sort of roundabout solves your situation: UPI Lite.

UPI Lite creates a sort of on-device wallet that can be topped up from your UPI linked bank account. It works without a PIN requirment and is capped at INR 200 or lower per transaction.

Here's a link explaining the differences: UPI Vs. UPI Lite

Was in Dubai last year, transferred funds via UPIs without any problem, so IMO it works internationally as well, as long as you're connected to the internet, moreover the transaction is being done from one India based A/c to another India based A/c.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

For me, nothing beats Google Pay. It was the first UPI platform I ever used, and I was impressed with its simple UI, without any clutter like other UPI platforms. I also use Paytm wallet for my fasttag, and I'm slowly moving towards Paytm due to its high success rate during payments. However, I still choose GPay for larger transactions.

Just wanted to update that the NPCI just announced wallet integration with UPI . Soon, you'll be able to make UPI payments from your PayTM Wallet.

An app that already offers this is ICICI Pockets.

Most useful for all the small payments you don't want cluttering up your bank statement (I am one of those who tallies his bank statements with my local data entries ).
