Adolescence(Netflix): Completely blown away by this mini series. I am not sure whether i should recommend this because this is the probably the best I have seen in a long time, or not recommend it to preserve your peace of mind. What cinematography and what acting! It is gut wrenching, gritty but nevertheless one of the finest things on TV ever!

I think this is one of those series that you either love or hate- there is no middle ground. Am firmly in the former category, like yourself. As someone with teenage children, it hits so hard and viscerally it takes your breath away.

Pantheon (Netflix)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11680642/

"A young woman starts to get messages from an unknown number that claims to be her deceased father. Trying to uncover the truth, she stumbles upon a larger conspiracy involving the singularity"

Pretty good animated series this. Sci-Fi stuff.

Was a bit amazed at the blatant copying of Reliance (Alliance, with a very similar house) and Steve Jobs.

Overall a good tight series.

Suzhal - The Vortex - Season 2 (Tamil)

The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)-1.png

Not as good/thrilling as the first season but definitely watchable. Good acting by all. Found the episodes to be a bit long. Loved the BGM and the cinematography. Some scenes does remind of Asur. Some episodes, especially the one towards the end seems to be pretty ordinary.

Rating - 3.5/5 (Amazon Prime). Recommended.

Love under construction - (Malayalam)

The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)-2.png

Now this was a refreshing watch. I usually don’t prefer rom-com movies/series, but this was a good one. Good acting by all. Nothing new here, but an entertaining watch.

Rating - 3.5/5 (Hotstar). Recommended.

Adolescence

The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)-3.png

This was recommended by a YouTube reviewer that I follow and saw posts here as well.

What did I just watch? Although it was dialogue heavy and had static shots, this got me hooked. The kid’s acting (He deserves an award) was just out of this world especially episode 3 which had an hour long conversation (Each episode was single shot. No idea if they edited it but didnt like they did). The dad’s acting was brilliant as well well supported by others.

Most of shot were static while the dynamic shots were less complicated, but there were some shots which were amazing. I know “Extraction” had similar shots, but this one had it’s moments as well especially when the continues movement was transferred from handheld position to a drone (watch “How Adolescence was filmed” to see behind the scenes.)

Rating - 5/5 (Netflix). Loved it. MUST WATCH!

Totally.

I'm glad someone noticed it. That is the single most annoying thing of this season. Besides, there is another stupid scene. She kisses him and say's " It is never gonna happen again". Come on, how lame can one get. lol!

Khakee- The Bengal Chapter Netflix

Another gripping series from the house of Neeraj Pandey and this time, it is from Bengal. Just like the Bihar Chapter which also portrayed the real life situations involving IPS Lodha, this series also takes inspirations from many real life happenings during the eighties and the nineties in and around the city of Calcutta.

The period setting has been meticulously followed and Calcutta is shown as just the way it should. The clubs, the ghats, maidan and the rest of it. The writers have taken good care to even mention the cinema halls present in a particular area of Calcutta which may be unknown to the ones living outside the city. The screenplay is tight and keeps you hooked. The usual Neeraj Pandey style of keeping the audience hooked through suspense and twist is also present in abundance.

But the main mover of the series is the starcast. This series brings together two stalwarts of Bangla industry for the first time and both of them excel in their respective roles. Prosenjit Chatterjee and Jeet add gravitas to their roles but it’s the supporting cast which trumps everything. Saswata Chatterjee, Aadil Zafar Khan and Ritwick Bhoumik have given superlative performances and which are memorable. Story-wise, nothing new but watch it for the performances. Recommended watch.

Adolescence

To add to other posts, this series makes one feel woefully unprepared for the worldview that Gen Z kids carry around inside their heads (or maybe it’s their reality). Hit me especially hard as I have a 13 year old and some of her budding perspectives are eerily similar.

The one-take style was perfect in conveying the confusion felt by each character at the disorienting turn of events.

Reacher S3

Dumb fun, like someone else said.

Teresa. Redhead. DEA agent literally throwing herself at Reacher. Looks like someone from Bollywood wrote the screenplay for this.

Wheel of Time (Season 3) : 4 / 5 (so far)

Any Wheel of Time fans here (book and/or TV series)?

Seasons 1 & 2 had been pretty meh; but so far season 3 is picking up the pace fast. And the most recent episode S03E04 is one of the best ever so far. As someone in a fan thread said, this episode is probably the Red Wedding equivalent episode for the WoT series.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Watched Dabba Cartel and Khakee - Bengal Chapter over the last weekend. Both were good in some ways and had the loop holes which made the story a bit weak. Both of the series had some over the top hamming and some cliched scenes.

Talents like Gajaraj Rao, Shabana Azmi, Lillette Dubey seem to be wasted in Dabba Cartel. Varun Grover felt funny speaking English and with a rich man swag, he should be more in his usual self.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Forget about Akshay Kumar getting ready to play Sunitha Williams (there was joke on this). We could see our film makers trying to milk the genre created by Adolescence

Still hoping Akshay Kumar is no where near them

I have read all the books. I couldn't finish season 1, lost interest after the 4th episode.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Season 3 of The White Lotus has hit the screens.

Fabulous show!

If Season 1 and Season 2 were anything to go by, I'm certain Season 3 will be great, and so far it has lived up to expectations.

Watched the first 5 episodes. I believe the episode that aired yesterday/today was a banger!

Also, will watch Adolescence. Thank you all for the recommendations.

Yea - overall the first two seasons were pretty much crap and very slow. The only good thing coming out of those two seasons was Donal Finn picking up the role of Mat; and doing a much better job.

There's a bit of creativity leveraged (but nothing too extreme); while episodes 1 - 3 seem rushed, the book storyline pace is rightly picking up fast; and I feel the lead characters are getting into the act; especially the men. Keeping fingers crossed the rest of the episodes match up to E04.

Each season focuses on one book? or are they combining a couple of books together in one season. I think I need to read-up on the book summaries before I start Season 3

Not really. The original view from the studios was that there would be 8 seasons with 8 episodes each; so definitely 14 volumes would have been hashed up. Looking at how season 3 is proceeding, it's not clear if there would be enough content for 8 seasons.

Even in first 2 seasons, they didn't exactly follow the books as per the written schedule but season 2 loosely ended around the same point where book 2 ended. But in season 3 first four episodes, we have already reached parts of book 4 already. It's interesting how the TV series is consuming the book content and adding it's own touches; so have a watch and do comment

Watch it and then read the book summaries. That way the episodes are more interesting (IMO).
