Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Watched Scam 2003 and actually did not realize that it is releasing in 2 parts, so that was a downer.

Agree with the comments that it is definitely a good show, but if you are expecting Scam 1992 levels, then it will disappoint.

In my view, where Scam 1992 succeeded was that it was able to lay out and explain all the technicalities in a clear and simple manner before getting to the meat of the story. I recall even my then 10 year old daughter was able to follow it and was fascinated by it. Of course, the direction and approach to the story was also at a different level.

Scam 2003 on the other hand makes a lot of assumptions regarding the viewers knowledge about it. While everyone knows stamp papers, most will have only a superficial view of the whole end to end process behind it. Scam 2003 rushed through these parts and very quickly jumped into the first elements of the scam. So even for me (with fair knowledge of the scam itself) it was a little bit of a struggle to comprehend the scam part and keep up.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Watched Scam 2003 on Sony Liv.

Clearly a downer if compared to Scam 1992.

Scam 2003 fails to project the true evil of the man called Abdul Karim Telgi and tries to portray him as "a good guy" for some odd reason.

Having followed the Telgi case closely and the upheaval in caused in Maharashtra, guess I was expecting fireworks in Scam 2003, but alas!

The fact that only 5 episodes have been released came as a shocker and ended abruptly. Awaiting the balance episodes now to see if anything better comes up in the show.

P.s. Guess Hansal Mehta got occupied with Scoop and left Scam 2003 in the hands of his team.

Agree with you. In both Scams, Hansal Mehta is showing these scamsters as visionaries who believed that 'bending rules' is best for the Nation's future. And the lengthy 'gyan' to that end (OMG) was yawn evoking

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Burning Body- Netflix

4/5

This is an interesting and rather twisted Spanish thriller series inspired by true events. It's quite gripping and shot in pretty Barcelona locales with decent acting.

If you like thrillers, Murder and investigative type of series. Then this is a must watch.

Predators- Netflix

5/5

This series has different episodes of predatory animals like Cheetah, Lion and Polar bear.

The scenery is simply mind-blowing and action shots will leave you gaping as some of the animal shots really wonderful.

Narration of entire story for each episode is the icing on the cake.

Must watch for Wildlife lovers.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Started watching Depp v. Heard on Netflix and dropped out during episode 02. The series aims at justifying the lies of Amber Heard that were revealed during the trial. e.g. She had rubbished the claims that she took Depp's money by stating that she has donated the entire money (7 million US dollars) and did not keep anything to herself. The trial revealed that she has actually given around 0.7 million out of the 7 million and has held onto the rest as of now. The series has been created to simply defend everything in Amber Heard's favour. I am not sure how they have defended her interactions with Elon Musk, James Franco and others.

I am watching Ahsoka even though I only watched maybe two seasons of the Clone Wars (animated series) back in 2010 something. So, I do not know the back story of Ezra etc.

I have watched Andor, Mandalorian so watching Ahsoka is more of a need than want, in order to not have any missing links in future Star Wars releases.

I would rate this at 1.5/5 the way the season 03 has ended. I started watching all three seasons 2 weeks back.

Season 01: I thought it will set the stage for superhero stuff and endured it.
Season 02: This one was a bit interesting. But no actual superhero stuff.
Season 03: I found it dumb.

The creators made us of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) success to create a series that eventually can be compared to a college or school project.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

quick updates on few shows -
Licoln Lawyer Season 2 - well executed, nicley done, though a bit predictable (8/10)
Ragnorok - Season 3 - terrible, Season 1 was good built up expectations nicely, season 2 was ok, average and season 3 is absolutely terrible, somehow managed to finish after fast-forwarding several scenes (4/10)
Freelancer - all episodes are not out so far but going good. Waiting for next episodes.

A Simple Murder - Hindi

The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)-tax._v1_fmjpg_ux1000_.jpg

A decent one but felt it to be a bit of a drag towards the end. Nothing great or anything that stands out.

Rating - 2/5 (one time watch). Available on SonyLiv

Menaka - Season 1 and 2 - Malayalam

The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)-1000x1500_menaka_131131_f1d2f5ec66ad4332ba51d5a90bcffe4f.jpg

This was a good find. Wonder why this wasn't promoted online even when they claim it's Malayalam's first web series. I had my doubts on this since all actors were new and unnecessary overdose usage of English. But the series picks up from 2nd episode. Very good attempt I would say, but certain things could have been better like some actors were pretty amateurish.

Rating - 4.5/5 (Highly recommended). Available on Manorama Max.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Started watching 'The Freelancer' on Hotstar, good star cast and plot seems to be good. The story building was just about completed and then we realized they have only released 4 episodes, that's totally disappointing since the overall plot was just picking up pace at the end of the 4th episode.
Not sure what Hotstar is thinking with such an approach, it's not even a logical closure to bring S1 to an end and start off S2! You may not even remember what happened in S1 when S2 is released next year!

Hopeless.

HIJACK Apple TV

Watched this one for the one and only Idris Alba but the series was underwhelming. Never really had the urgency or the edge of the seat thrill that is usually associated with such stories as the name suggests. Idris Alba carried the whole series but the premise of the story is so preposterous that one would have to be very dumb to believe it. In the end, saving grace is Alba only !!

Rating: 2.5/5

FREELANCER Hotstar

Another Neeraj Pandey work and which is equally engaging. But but, what is this with the maker's today who release one part of the series and keep the rest for the another time ? I mean, this is how you kill the interest of the viewer. Just when the series was getting interesting, the series ends abruptly while giving a sneek peek into the second part which has been shot already. I would suggest folks who have not yet seen it to wait for the rest of the series to release and then binge watch the whole series at one go. The story has all the ingredients for a perfect series with spot on acting and direction. Only if the whole series was released as well.

Rating: Not rating it yet.

BAMBAI MERI JAAN Amazon Prime

The best series after Scoop to come on OTT platforms so far. Engaging storyline, brilliant actors and performances makes this one a perfect binge worthy series. For the motorheads, the classic mercs and the jawas make for such a droolworthy watch. Kay Kay Menon is superlative as always but the one who is making a big mark these days is Saurabh Sachdeva and I am already a great admirer of his work. No wonder he is almost everywhere. The series ends with a promise of a second season and which should be a good wait. Only gripe from the makers- the series has been shot under very dark lighting conditions. Recommended watch.

Watched BAMBAI MERI JAAN on Amazon Prime

Watched it for KK Menon & except him found the rest of the cast just OK. Storyline is usual deal which we have seen in so many movies and series' loosely based on the book Dongri to Dubai: Six Decades of the Mumbai Mafia by Hussain Zaidi.

Warning : Foul language galore. Watch it with earphones or when kids/parents aren't around.

Rating : 3/5

I was attracted by the 'Ritesh Sidhwani - Farhan Akhtar' credentials as they have produced some good content in the past, but this was very disappointing and I would rate it as their worst ever. It didn't help that I have read Dongri to Dubai, which was an enormously well researched work, and after that this feels so superficial. The excessive use of expletives has become very common now and passes for 'realism'. It is lazy script writing to make everyone just spout abuses all the time. The Mumbai lingo is totally absent, and for some strange reason the gangster's family keeps breaking into Hyderabadi muslim accent.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Watching “Choona” on Netflix.

My rating after 2 episodes: 4/5

Narrated by Arshad Warsi, the story is slowly building in a nice manner so far. The back story of why a few individuals have developed a common goal is being told the way it should and I am sure that the series will be worth the time.
