Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Extraordinary*(Season 1-2023): True to its title, this is indeed an extraordinary concept. A new, original, and cleverly crafted series. Sincere to say, I appreciate British comedy more than American humour. Sometimes low-cost series do wonders, and this is one good example. Recommended.

8/10

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

I know that the plot was a little far stretched, but I quite liked Farzi. All the main actors have done very well and it is difficult to choose who's the best among them.

Dissapointed that it ended in a cliffhanger and S2 is at least a couple of years away. But Farzi S1 = 4 stars

Succession Season 4 Episode 3. I'll only say that I saw the episode at my friends place.

The "succession" per se is happening, and the kids are trying to handle it before they could even process it & deal it viz-a-viz with their own personal issues & flaws. Every character has an angle and those too have been captured & conveyed succinctly.

This was among the absolute best TV I have seen. Direction, acting everything. Its been 4 days & my circles still agree its amongst the top 10.

Jubilee (Prime Video) - Season 1: 4.5/5

Loosely based on the life of actor Ashok Kumar, it gives a glimpse into Indian Cinema of the 40's and 50's. Period accurate sets, excellent cinematography, tight story and good acting by the cast. In fact the new faces have done a much better job than the known ones. It's starts off slow but picks pace from 2nd episode onwards. After Rocket Boys, this is another show where I am hooked completely.

PS: The season 2 has been released today and I am looking forward to watching it.

Seven Kings Must Die has landed on Netflix.
Looks grand, have set aside the weekend to enjoy it.

And I managed to time the re-watch of the Last Kingdom to end today morning only!

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

I finished watching some old series:

1. Dexter: Pretty good and gripping. You get used to the violence and gore. Series ended a bit weirdly though. Haven't watched the new season which is on a channel i haven't subscribed to.
2. Breaking Bad: This was something which I wanted to watch for a long time based on many reviews on this thread. Loved it. Great storyline and acting by all characters. Pretty well ended too.
3. Mentalist: Watching currently reached Season 4. Its pretty good. Some episodes are a bit of a drag though.

There is this Korean movie 'Burning' available on Amazon for streaming. Watch it if you like slow-paced noir classics, but this one is a Psychological Drama/thriller.

Thank you for the recommendation guys!

Started watching last week and currently on season 2. Not a bingeworthy series and yet it has kept me glued. Always had a curiosity towards the Cold War, KGB and the story from both sides - this one's panning out quite well. Big fan of Margo Martindale too!

What works is the well paced drama, very less action, solid acting by all, the side characters not getting thrown out at will but getting a closure in later episodes, and the context of the cold war. No clear heroes or villains, no glamourisation of spies or the FBI here. As one of the spies says at the end "We were just doing a job".

Rating: 5/5

ps - Some may find the pace too slow, and the background of the cold war too 'academic'.

Finished season 6, seems they were in a hurry to end the series, could have been a bit more gradual, the ending is also a bit odd, nevertheless still loved the series, the actors are top notch, you may notice that there is almost 0 background music in most of the episodes, towards the last series the music is added, however they do play some great tracks all throughout the series. Already wondering what to watch next, 1 episode a day was fixed for me

Pretty interesting series - you get Madam Secretary vibes from this series.

"Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House, which they play in Season 6 Episode 1 is a daily staple for me now .
