You are probably right. I bought my first MacBook in 2009 in Kansas City. Too long ago, can’t remember exactly anymore. Of course, free is always a relative term. You end up paying for it regardless, be through the hardware or otherwise.

And of course, you can’t download any version of OS unless you own the respective device I think.

The MacBooks were and are very expensive. But they also last forever, at least the ones I owned and I am only onto my second MacBook since 2009! They took all those upgrades and updates and kept performing well, without slowing down.

Elon Musk has founded 3 LLCs - "X holdings" 1, 2 and 3 - one of which was where the bank loans went to and got merged with Twitter. What's with the other 2? Maybe buy shares from Elon?

Re: Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter for US$ 41 billion. EDIT: Acquires Twitter for $44 billion

Can't believe the absolute dumpster fire this whole thing has become.

Random people impersonating politicians and multi-billion dollar corporations and running their mouth off on Twitter is just pure comedy gold (if only there was a way to actually authenticate people on Twitter and denote that with some sort of badge ).

All the high profile exits over the last few days might be a sign of where this ia all heading to (of course the Elon groupies will just tell you that it was all a part of this grand design and plan).

We are actually getting tidbits of what senior executives are posting on slack channels to employees all over the company at this point. A Live demonstration of what happens when a guy with a PR puffed up image starts believing in his own genius and tries to show us all how to run a company in real time.

After all these years I am starting to think that there might be some value in this social media thing even for guys like me.

Elon can't help being a loud mouth but keeping on announcing half baked policies on Twitter is not such a good idea.

I am not sure where you saw the empathy. People who joined meta one week ago, were laid off. Did they not have insight into their revenues for at least a quarter? They were hiring frantically till the month they announced the layoffs. Their AI devices recruiter was messaging me as late as Oct 22. Phew, dodged a bullet there.
Corporations have no empathy towards their employees, if anything they have empathy to their shareholders. Right after the Meta layoff announcement the stock spiked double digits. You see this time and again, in American companies, they disable the badge and send a security escort to cleanup your office with hours notice. What is any employee going to do with tearful letter from Zuck? Can I take it in place of medical insurance for my child's surgery? His note is not even good enough to wipe the behinds.

Love your work, not who you work for. This is my motto as an American worker.

Re: Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter for US$ 41 billion. EDIT: Acquires Twitter for $44 billion

Our IQ can conquer engineering challenges, it can conquer organizational complications, it can conquer financial cesspools, it can conquer countries, start wars but history has shown time and again that our IQ cannot conquer a runaway ego. The world is full of men who started thinking they are God. One more has joined that list. Too many businessmen, politicians, world leaders fall for the fallacy of 'I am the greatest at (fill in the blank) and (fill in the blank) therefore I will be immensely successful at (fill in the blank again). In a way I don't blame him. If I were one of the the richest men on the planet with folks sucking my toes all the time and women falling over me and Government heads wooing me my head would turn too.

His entire run on Twitter has been driven not by the need for reform, that line is for the believers, but by the desire for power. By the desire to be the Big Brother of George Orwell's 1984. Control of the digital media is the new big power trip of the times. Tesla share price dropping from $308 on 20th September to 195 on 11th November is a reminder by the Tesla shareholders that they backed him to revolutionize the road transport industry and not to play Big Brother. That is a drop from a market cap of $967bn to $619bn. If he financially wrecks Twitter and/or the expected recession clutches in we'll see the Tesla stock, his primary currency, plummet further. And there is the $20bn debt to pay off.

When US companies toss these $bn numbers around we in India {at least senior citizens like me} don't often grasp what the number means - in India only 4 business groups in their entirety have a debt book of over $20bn - Tata, Aditya Birla, Reliance and Adani. Many medium sized nations don't have a national debt of over $20bn - Zambia, Tanzania, Oman, for example. My only sympathy is for Twitters employees. Some of his believers are expecting him to pull off a miracle or some magic formula. The only magic formula is hard work, thoughtful application of mind, timing and a dose of good karma tailwinds.

I don't think many employees are interested in the financials of a company. Best, they even avoid it. They might be interested to know how their company is doing, but no one peeks into the 10K or DEF14A. The severance pay that Meta gave is one of the highest, puts a little medicine on the wound. Like Musk said, you don't need to sugarcoat a tough message but when it's the last message from an employer, it doesn't cost to be more empathetic. I was referring to that. Most people remember the words and the way they have been treated. I saw tons of LinkedIn posts after the Meta layoff and trust me, not a single one was negative. Everyone had huge respect for the company and were happy that they could bid goodbye to their colleagues. I don't think any Twitter employee would have the same opinion after what they have been put through.

Elon Musk is making some seriously powerful enemies within establishment America - Corporates, Democratic party, Media, the military-industrial complex (who want the Rus-Ukr war to continue) etc

Edward Snowden might find new company soon.

Re: Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter for US$ 41 billion. EDIT: Acquires Twitter for $44 billion

The quixotic, cartoon character Elon Musk has said that Twitter could go bankrupt if it doesn't find new ways to generate revenues. At an all employee meeting he said that Twitter is losing money and "bankruptcy isn't out of the question."

The watchdog Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is watching the developments. The FTC said in a statement Thursday that it is "tracking recent developments at Twitter with deep concern."

"No CEO or company is above the law, and companies must follow our consent decrees," said the FTC's statement. "Our revised consent order gives us new tools to ensure compliance, and we are prepared to use them."

The FTC statements have come in the backdrop of experts saying that the dramatically smaller headcount after the mass layoffs will likely make it harder for the platform to uphold its legal obligations, to ensure users' data privacy.

Summarising, not only Twitter but at the same time Elon Musk could also go bankrupt going by such developments lately, as Murphy's many laws take effect, sequentially, one after the other during such crises, causing a domino effect.
