Team-BHP - A Guide: Eating out in Delhi/NCR

Dear All,

Please find below my inputs as most of the fellow Bhpian’s(already all choice in NCR listed in the post) have already listed the most famous & liked places.

I am just listing down some very good & some good place to add them as an input as well which are not listed before:
Some of these places are unique which are also very enjoyable to visit.

Ghaziabad-Gandhi ke Andee (eggs)- This is a place in Navyug Market & is very famous for different types of Egg & its various applications like Half fry, boiled etc.Gandhi ji is the buyer of largest eggs in Ghaziabad & the preparation is very good & also of different type than what is normally available in market, the bad side is Gandhi ji ki stall is like road side stall so no place to sit but is highly recommended. You can either sit in your car or can stand & eat –tables are kept near to his stall. He makes cholle baturee/Cholle puri during day time & eggs during evening.
Ghaziabad -Modinagar- known for Jain Shikanji(the place also has good Kulfi just next to Jain Shikanji which is next to modinagar Police station)
Noida- Sector 37- Tea Shoppe -This shop is owned by Mr. Mehra (Uncle) who has retired from Army & has 30 years of Experience in Tea, This place is a hot destination for student & young person like me,:D

The place is very good for Ice Tea @ 20, Ice Coffee @ 25, Peach Tea & various varieties of Tea’s, they also serve good sandwiches.

Noida-Sector 62-Newly opened Stellar Group IT Park – Restraunt Binge – This is a good restraunt with nice food & is in the range of 450 rs, they offer discount to corporate as well. I am good reference to them as well.
Greater Noida-Stellar Gymkhana – lucky being a member – I have the access but the restraunts is good with nice ambience.
Noida -Sector 15 & Ansari Road : Choor Bazzar- Ok Place with Buffet Option
Noida - Sector 2 - Nirulas- Good for Hot Chocolate Fudge
Noida Sector 18 Lazzez Roll – Opp sector 18 Macdons.
Delhi-Crown Plaza-Opposite Dhabas.
Delhi- Iskon Mandir - Govinda Restraunt good for thali
Delhi- Kalkaji Market: Restraunt Khadim- Good for butter chicken & veg item

I would list some more good options.

Cost should be less than 120/person for 4-5 people ,preferebly indian foo.my friend eats a lot so serving should be decent sizelol:

@Alaknanda : Qureshi is the best, good yummy food and will completely fit in your budget, this is bang opposite to the Don Bosco school.

I am not a fish fan. Not by a long shot. My dad is. So when we were passing Moti Nagar today, he got fish fry packed from Paramjeet machhi wala.

At Rs 400 for half a kg, I thought it was a tad expensive. Especially when it was easy to get two full tandoori chickens at the same price :p

But was I in for a surprise ? :o

The fish was yummmmy, and the best I ever had. Though I am still not a convert, and will prefer chicken & mutton to fish; Paramjeet machhi wala has ensured that I will eat Fish there whenever I pass from there.

Genuine fish lovers will either love the place, or absolutely hate it ('coz they would have had much better stuff elsewhere I presume). But its highly recommended you give it a try at least.

Location: Coming from Raja Garden chowk and going towards Moti Nagar, the shop is on your left just a few meters before the Fun Multiplex. Nearest metro station is Ramesh Nagar.

Just back....burp.... from a heavy lunch at Sahib Sindh Sultan - Gurgaon. Situated on the third floor of the Ambience Mall, this is an independent restaruant as opposed to a noisy food court. Burrrppp....

The ambience was very nice and I was pleasantly surprised to see the occupancy at 60-70%. There are two seating areas - a normal one, and a section that is built like the inside of a train compartment. Since this was an official lunch, and a colleague had already made himself comfortable on the normal side, we decided to sit there itself. It will be the train compartment the next time I visit

We ordered the following items:

- Thomsons Atta Chicken: By far, one of the best dry chicken dishes I have ever had. Truly wonderful. You can see some pics and a better description on this blog - Hedgehog Bird at Sahib Sindh Sultan
Its a must have dish, even if you have to travel a bit to taste it.

- The other items like Daal, Paneer and Peshawari chicken were also very nice.

We were 4 non-vegetarians and 2 veg people and ended up paying 2200 for the meal. This includes a 10% corporate discount but no beverages and no desserts.

Other observations:

- The service is a little slow and you have to time your orders (specially breads) to ensure no breaks in between.

- We were overbilled by one 'dal', though it got corrected as soon as we pointed it out.

- Very spacious and you do not have (and neither do you get the chance to) people staring at your table trying to see what has been ordered.

- Parking in the mall costs 30 bucks on weekdays and 50 on weekends. Ample parking available though.

- The sofa is way too soft and one tends to sink too much into it making it slightly uncomfortable.

Overall : Do try it once. Burrrpppp.... time for some hajmola

SANKALP: A new restaurant in Gurgaon, exclusively for South Indian food. I have been there twice now and have come out impressed each time. The food is definitely better than the more famous options like Sagar Ratna and Nevedyam.

- Sankalp is the one of the only three outlets in the entire mall. Though that may be boring for some, the advantage is that there is peace and calm and absolutely no parking hassles.

- The mall also has DT cinemas and therefore is a perfect place for a movie and dinner. This is also the most inexpensive theater in ggn with the weekend ticket priced at 150 and a weekday ticket priced at 100. But nothing else, except for an Amul ice cream parlor.

- The ambiance and service is very nice.

- Idlis and vadas are priced between 80 and 110 bucks. The dosas start from 90 and go upto 175 or thereabouts.

- Average cost comes to about 200-225 bucks per head for veg food.

- Filter kaapi is nice (45 bucks)

- Personally tried the following items:
Desi Ghee idlis
Vadas
Custom made to order "Onion and Corn Uthhapam"
Kanchipuram Achaari Rava Dosa
Filter Kaapi
A special mention of the chutneys they serve. The garlic chutney is yummy and another one (don't know the name of the ingredient) is equally good. Sambhar is just according to my taste. Spicy, thick and less tangy. But this is one item where individual taste matters.

- Also serves non-veg, but not tried that yet.

Overall Verdict: : If you like south indian food, give it a try. Cost is slightly on the higher side, but it warrnats at least one try and then you can decide whether its VFM. It was, for me.

PS: Location is just opposite 32nd Milestone in a weird looking mall. Right next to the IBM office.

Went there in the first week of Jan. Alas this particular dish was not available that day :(. Rest of the stuff was excellent (I had ordered Laal Maas and fish tikka), cooked just right.

Isn't Sankalp also in the same mall? We had actually landed up in the Gurgaon Ambiance Mall, while my sister wanted to go to the Vasant Kunj one for something. Man, got a mouthful from the ladies for having confidently consulted Google Maps!

Never again will I go to Karims. Had been to the Malviya Nagar branch, but the grub was not an enchanting experience by a long shot. The Qorma was swimming in enough oil (at least half an inch above the nearest edible stuff in the dish) to give an impression that oil is the cheapest ingredient in food stuff (like sweets in Bangalore). The roomalis were like leather - had to visit the dentist after I came back!

For once, I had given a go-by to risk consciousness and gorged on Gol-gappas, alu tikkis, alu chat and papdi chat at the chat shop in Central Market Lajpat Nagar. That joint never fails to amaze me with their consistent taste and quality (just don't look at the surroundings) over 40 years!!! I can never muster up enough time to go to the Bengali Market chat-wallah. The Lajpat Nagar joint is a must-do on a shopping trip with the family.

Since we don't get genuine North Indian samosas in Bangalore, I had had some packed and gorged on them when I came back. Ah, the taste never goes away - simple pleasures in life.

I recently spent 2 months in Delhi (and 4 in the last 8 months); and of all non-veg places in Khan Market and Nizamuddin Ap ki Khatir was the best. They have outlets in both places and have the best kakoris I have ever eaten. Kakori House in Bombay doesn't even compare in turn. Salim's has the next best kebabs in Khan Market. In Nizamuddin, there are number of places vying for the second spot. Though Nasir Iqbal (first major restaurant near the dargah) is quite fine.

The Burra Kebab at Ap ki Khatir. I want to fly back to delhi to just have that again. excellent stuff!
