I think member huntrz is correct. If you analyse the flow of water filtration process in Kent RO, you will notice that the TDS controller screw adds/ reduces unfiltered water to the output just before the collection tank. Which I think is a weird way to control TDS. I tested the TDS level day before yesterday on my Kent and it came to be 40 ppm. As a time-pass activity, I tested the TDS of my AC condensate and it was 32.

Re: Recommended water purifier?

We have an Aquaguard classic. AMC is always renewed in a timely manner through the app. This is more than sufficient for us.

Once a random guy showed up claiming to be from aquaguard, installed cheap candles & took AMC Cheque, found out later that it was a bogus company which dupes people. Complained to Aquaguard & they said their employees will always have a virtual visiting card, they'll send an sms before visiting.

Re: Recommended water purifier?

In the market for a Water purifier. I think we get Desalinated municipal water in our area Adyar, Chennai.
I checked the TDS and it varies between 400 to 450. Even our bore water has a TDS of around 450.
I have a doubt, Arent desalination plants basically large-scale RO plants. Do I need an RO at home or a UV+UF is enough?
I have been using a Kent UV,UF all these years but at a different location.

Yes,desalination plants are usually RO based now a days. The output TDS of an RO plant can be tailored to suit end user requirement, so 450 TDS is not surprising. This level of TDS will put a very light load on the plant, so it will work efficiently (less electricity, more water).

If you are fine with TDS of 450, then a filter+UV is sufficient, else go for RO based unit.

Re: Recommended water purifier?

I have a Kent RO+UV+UF purifier, which is just 1 year old.

In the last few days, I am observing that a very small amount of water keeps flowing from the outlet pipe even after the purifier is turned off.

Could it be something serious ? Should I call the service guys ? The purifier is anyway due for annual maintenance.

(The inlet water is very hard in our locality)

This is normaql. In an RO,waste water is thrown away. The amount depends on the hardness and TDS.

For Kent RO I suggest that you go for an AMC. Even though it is expensive, it is worthwhile as most parts are covered as is service. Only consumable (candles etc) are not.

Re: Recommended water purifier?

I am in the market for a new water purifier. I had a subscription for livpure which I discontinued, since I felt the output TDS was lower than recommended (35), and the monthly subscription was high.

The input TDS (as shown by the aquaguard rep) is around 270. We have a full house Kent water softener.

I am confused on which one to go for and am looking for guidance. I prefer a stainless steel tank. The options with this are:
1. Aquaguard - comes with RO+UV+UF. It has a TDS controller, which basically mizes RO water with just UV filtered water to increase the output TDS. Not sure how good this is. It also has some copper cartridge, which I feel is gimmicky. Costs around 21K
2. LG - comes with RO+UF filter. The UC is in the tank, which I think is good. The cost is high @28K, and have read it's maintenance costs are high too.

3. If I am ok to overlook steel tank, Pureit has a RO+UF with UC in tank. Costs range between 16-20K.

How bad is a plastic tank?
Have heard output TDS should be ideally between 50-150. Is this possible without a tDS controller, the way aquaguard does it (by mixing non RO water)?.

Any suggestions in general which would suit my input TDS.

I am very happy with the service V-Guard has been providing. They are usually prompt when we raise a ticket for any issues. the product is relatively quiet and trouble free too. I have never had an issue with the build quality or the taste of water we get from it.

Only concern I have is that it wastes about 3-4 times the amount of water that it gives us. Which I find to be on the higher side and feel bad for the environment. I now collect that and use it for secondary applications like mopping the house to make myself feel a bit better

I have a Urban Company Native M2 water purifier in my home. Even this purifier wastes about 3-4 times the amount of water that gives us. I havent thought of using the discarded water. Time to use it for some house cleaning.

Regarding checking the TDS level in the water, I have purchased a KONVIO Neer TDS meter from Amazon which I use regularly to check the water TDS level. It's super useful and peaceful to the mind knowing that we are drinking safe water.
