Reject water should flow as long as the membrane is permeating, ie when the tap is open or when the storage tank is being filled. In my case even when the storage was full and the tap was closed it kept releasing reject water. To prevent this, I set it up such that the system shuts down when not operating. I actually attempted for the auto flush valve to come on hourly and let reject water flow but somehow this didn't work and I haven't had time to set this up. I do intend getting to this sometime soon.

Or, to put it another way, reject water is flowing when the unit it operating. But it does not, and should not, operate all the time. It must not do that!

I am only use to an under-sink unit with a pressure storage tank. I assume that small counter-top units work on demand? They should not be operating at all unless the pressure tank is being filled or the water is being drawn.

Been there, seen that, and had the maintenance guy in to replace the stuck switches

Surprising. From where it released water?

The water circuit is,

Inlet->Pre-flters->RO Module->Reject/Permeate

So, if inlet was closed, then No Reject and Permeate would have been produced. HP Pump might run idle, if not interlocked with low pressure at inlet.

If inlet was open and HP pump wasn't running, then also there will be no flow through RO Module.

Either case, running water in drain after inlet is closed and tank has become full, is not Reject water. It might be the permeate getting drained due to some valve malfunction.

Re: Recommended water purifier?

I am in the process of buying a new water purifier. Checked a couple of the brands and was told that the LG was the costliest in terms of filter replacement. PureIt was the lowest in terms of filer charges and also comes with a free filter set.

My concern is how much pressure is required for the RO unit? Incidentally we are depending on tanker water as the bore well has become defunct. The water will be available in batches of half an hour once every two to three hours. Will I be able to get the water filtered as the pressure will be low with others using the water at the same time?

Most of these units come with a built in pressure booster that will solve the problem. Ask for a model that includes a pressure pump. I had purchased a 7 stage RO unit from the US without a booster pump and learnt this the hard way. I purchased a pressure pump locally, set it up and now all is fine.

Re: Recommended water purifier?

We have been using Dr. Aquaguard water purifier since 4 years. The service per year with filter change and 2 - 3 home visits costs around 2000. However we are not satisfied with the service.

Now we are planning for a LG purifier mainly because of the stainless steel reservoir. I just wanted to know the cost of service and quality of service for LG purifiers in Mumbai. Any info is appreciated.

From what I know LG only has purifiers for hard water with fixed tds.

Hi I am shocked at the wastage of water by our new Aquaguard RO. Can this water be fed back into the system? What else can I use this water for?

Re: Recommended water purifier?

A few weeks back, saw an ad for Livpure Smart - a RO water- as a service model.
They install a new system at your place, maintain the filters, and we just pay a monthly fee based on the amount of water consumed. I got one because the hassle of ordering Bisleri was way too much.

While I love the idea, the service is pathetic to put it nicely. Its been 3 weeks and I am still waiting for them to come over and adjust the TDS levels (its under 10 currently).

They have a basic app also which apart from telling the daily log of water consumed, is pretty useless (Case in point: It says the TDS levels are good)

Re: Recommended water purifier?

Folks. I am shortly going to be on the lookout for an RO unit. Are Kent and Zero-B still the brand leaders? Kent had developed a reputation of not being very durable. I will be looking for an under-sink type of installation.

What system are looking to feed it back into ?

We collect this water and use it to wash the door step (we live in an independent house). I also wash my cars / scooter with this water.

The water that comes out of RO waste pipe is very high in salt content. The degree depends on the TDS of the incoming water, the higher it is the higher is the salt content in water.

As such this water can be used for cleaning the porch and other constructed portions of the house. It is too salty for agricultural use or house hold washing.

In our case the Kent AMC + consumables costs around 4K per year, so it is definitely expensive. As some have said in this forum, try to find an RO which can use generic filters available online. This will reduce the consumable costs a lot. Barring mother board, most of the service and repairs involve replacing cartridges and tightening up the internal water pipes which in our case tend to split and/or get loose regularly.

Re: Recommended water purifier?

I have a bore well and Cauvery connection. Both overhead tanks; Am trying to find a suitable solution to soften the bore well water + a combined sand filter to combine both water sources for everyday use. Any suggestions?

I am using 3M water softener with a 3M 40 Micron sand filter and a 5 micron sediment filter. I have noticed clean toilets and softer hair and skin.
On the downside the soapy feeling lingers in the hand even after soap is gone, floors are a bit slippery. My water is at a hardness of 640 and TDS of 2795 - lab tested every three months. Post the softener and a RO system, my drinking water shows a Hardness level of 34 and TDS of 175.

Thanks to this thread and we were facing the same question you have posed, when we renovated our house we went for Eco crystal, a local Bangalore based company and have had no complaints till date. Their website is https://ecocrystal.in/ and I am in no way connected to them except that I have been a happy customer.
