Poll is interesting so far! While Maruti & Hyundai lead (as expected), there are some brands that have greater market-share on Team-BHP than in the real world = Honda (21%), VW (14%), Ford (17%), Skoda (5.5%), BMW (8%) and Fiat (4.5%).

I voted for BMW, Skoda, Mahindra & Nissan.

Since the poll options can’t ‘live’ auto-sort as per results, it should at least be re - ordered alphabetically so there is some logic to the sequencing.

It has to be more than simple affluence. For instance, bulk of Hyundai’s sales have in been in the 10L and above segment for the past few years. I’d like to read this as BHPians are a lot less prone to heard mentality buys.

Higher awareness, and the fact that most BHPians by virtue of being metro city people have easy access to these brands and their dealerships! The kind of sample we are makes the massive dealership network of our market leaders fairly redundant.

Something is wrong with the poll - percentages don’t add up to 100 - perhaps because the denominator is the number of respondents as opposed to the number of cars chosen.

Not surprised by Maruti being under represented - or for that matter, BMW being materially over represented. This is an enthusiasts’ forum. We are not representative even if car owners in India - much can less all of India.

Single choice poll = View each poll option as a percentage of the total number of votes.

Just wanted to clarify my understanding - Maruti is 36% of all cars owned by BHPians. On a per capita basis, Maruti will be close to 0.7.

Rephrasing your comment on Marutis ->

There are 89 Marutis out of a total of 458 cars. This means Maruti's true marketshare among TeamBHPians is 89/458 = 19.4%

I feel that the percentage should be calculated with the total cars as the denominator not the respondents. That will give the market share of each brand in the context of total cars confirmed via poll.

If I may add to it:
- Team-BHPians keep Honda/VW/BMW/Ford/Skoda/Toyota longer than Marutis and Hyundais, considering there is more than one car per voter
