RIP Milkha Singh

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-57523457

Quote:
Popularly known as "the Flying Sikh", Singh won four Asian gold medals and finished fourth in the 400m final at the 1960 Rome Olympics.

In 2013, his story was turned into the Bollywood film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag - Run Milkha Run.

Singh's wife, Nirmal Kaur, a former volleyball captain, also died with Covid earlier this week, aged 85.

Singh had contracted Covid-19 last month and died of complications from the disease in a hospital in the northern city of Chandigarh late on Friday.

Re: RIP Milkha Singh

Rest in peace to one of the finest athlete India has ever produced. He was a pioneer in his time and definitely a huge source of inspiration for others to follow in his footsteps and take on the global platform in athletics. Footage of the famous 1960 Olympics held in Rome.

Re: RIP Milkha Singh

Quite an inspirational man. Dying of age is normal, but it is saddening to see perfectly healthy people succumbing to covid. May he rest in peace🙏

RIP to the legend.

He’s reunited with his partner who passed away just a week back.

Re: RIP Milkha Singh

Apart from what he did in his heydays, he also remained a committed athlete and a major inspiration for sportsmen and fitness lovers in his later years. Who can forget his fluent strides in this golden oldie from the Doordarshan days:

Milkha Singh appears from 0:56, just after Kapil Dev, another legend in his own right!

Oh my goodness. What a flood of memories that beautiful video brought - seeing all those sportspersons at that age again. Beautiful video. This as well as “Mile Sur Mera Tumhara”.

Milkha Singh was truly an iconic sportsman and its unbelievable what he achieved despite his modest & limited resources. A humble man too. May he rest in peace.

Re: RIP Milkha Singh

Loved this interview of his by Irfan.

Barely 10 mins into this, he mentions his last wish.

"Some young athelete brings the gold back to the country which I dropped in 1960 Rome, and our tricolor is hoisted at Olympics"

An inspirational, extra ordinary life. RIP sir!

Hope your/country's dream is materialised sooner than later.

Re: RIP Milkha Singh

RIP Sir. For boys of my generation you, Sriram Singh and Edward Sequiera were the only Indian athletes of track & field to admire and look up to. You achieved more than any other Indian athlete in track & field despite the lack of access to modern training techniques and the resources available today. God bless. Jai Hind.

Re: RIP Milkha Singh

What a legend and what an inspirational figure for many across generations. It is remarkable that the great man never went to a hospital during all these years even once for any ailment. Covid has taken too many stalwarts from us and the loss is irreparable.

Heart goes out to Jeev Milkha Singh, to lose both the parents in a span of one week is heartbreaking. Milkha Singh’s life story is one lesson in perseverance and how to make a life extra ordinary. One of his quotes stand out and more so in today’s time- My childhood was in Pakistan and adult life in India, when I ran, both India and Pakistan ran with me. What a life.... salute.

Re: RIP Milkha Singh

I love how he characterises his sporting persona/legend Milkha Singh -using "third person" in speech.
