These people are the true car enthusiasts according to me.

Most of the so called car enthusiasts I see, always stick to a car which is famous between people for a certain period of time, like the Toyota Supra. It was very commonly loved by people just because of the hype, at present it's the same case with Porsche 911 GT3RS and BMW M5CS(no offense intended). These kind of people don't have any idea when you ask them about their dream/favourite car
Each to its own. I think your approach is way to narrow. I
Why would your criteria be better than somebody else? If someone is interested in cars, no matter what, he or she is a car person. Anything else is a just a narrow minded, self defined, righteous approach to car ownership.

I get your way of thinking and understand where you're coming from, there's nothing wrong in liking cars without any specific reason but that doesn't make them a car enthusiast. There's a difference between "car person" and "car enthusiast" right? People who don't really know anything about cars and claiming themselves as car enthusiasts don't seem very true to me

I don't know why a car enthusiast would not or would be for that matter a specialist. Being a specialist has nothing to do with liking a particular topic. I know people who I would considere to be some most erudite knowledgable persons about politics, but they would hate it politics with everyn fibre their body.

Apart from that, what the hell is the definition of a specialist? A car person, or a car enthusiast? I think you are overthinking this big time. There is no difference between those terms, really. Except in the minds of very narrow minded people who lack perspective, insight and probably a life in general. Why would enthusiasm be less, or more, than boring detailed insights?

As a general rule, just my experience, specialists are mind boggling bores. Give me somebody with enthusiasm anytime over a specialist!

But hey, I'm just an old partly demented git, so if I were you, Imwould not even tru to argue with me.
