Re: Philately (stamp collections) - A hobby lost in the age of e-mails & instant messaging

I collected stamps for a few years as a child in the US. It started when I bought a small collection of stamps from a garage sale. I have them for more than 30 years, hope they are worth a fortune now

Does anyone have any idea how can I get an idea how much they are worth if anything?

As far as I know, only Mint stamps (Unstamped and touched only with tweezers) hold value.
Once they are rubber stamped and pasted, they are devalued.

Thanks. Would you know the reason for this. A defaced postage stamp indicates it was actually used a stamp and through effort, patience and chance the collector laid his/her hands on it. A mint condition indicates he/she is just a well off person who went and bought it from the post office and kept it in his drawer.
