Have no other debt / commitments
In addition to what SmartCat and others have suggested , you can also pledge part of your equity allocation and write covered call options against them to earn regular income , this is a high risk strategy but much more rewarding than SWP approach. Google search this and since you have 2 years you can paper trade strategies after learning and exploring this option if it suits you.

OP, do whatever strategy you want but not this. Nobody has made any significant money using this strategy in the long term except for experienced and professional traders. Also, I read the OP wanted to retire and not invite a potential heart attack. Google has a million ways to make money and yet majority of people are poor.

Actually, both you and spookey are right. This strategy is suitable for retirees (risk is lower than investing in equity index), but only for experienced investors/traders. But in the US, there are covered call ETFs like ticker symbol XYLD.

Such ETFs give monthly dividends from either capital appreciation or call option selling (ETF value will fall proportionately). Because short positions in call options limits gains and offers some downside protection, covered call ETFs have lower volatility than index ETFs.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Hey, I am trying to spend some time to fine tune my investment skills, so want to learn how to read the charts (i.e. to do technical analysis). From basic research, it appears that SOIC is good. But I won't be able to shell out time to do a complete course. I just want to test waters and so checking if anyone here has suggestions on good youtube videos to learn the basics. At the moment, I read on screener the financial performance of the companies and regular updates.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Hello, Fellow BHPian's!

Its been almost a Decade that I was last here, as I had lost access to my password.

My son came up to me ( He's 16 ) a few days ago, and mentioned TEAMBHP.
I dug out my old Rediffmail Email ID, and finally gained access to my account!

A decade ago, I had tried to strike a conversation about learning to Trade the Indian Stock Markets. I had even made a few posts... but got distracted!

Now, after collecting another Decade plus of experience in the market's that Include, Stocks, Options Buying Strategies and Automation of Trading Strategies via Coding, hosted on Cloud Servers, I can say I am in a better place to maybe help out a few people who need to know how to go about their Stock Market Journey

I am aware, that quite a few Member's here would have a good experience in the market's, while there would be a few who are not very conversant with the jargon of the market's.

I plan to address both beginner's, as well as experienced trader's.

My expertise is in creation of Trading Strategies on Nifty to be used in Options buying.
I am completely automated in my Intraday Trading

Also, Trading Psychology, is a subject that's close to my heart.

I have spoken at various Trading Conclaves across India on the above subjects.

Lets have some discussion on the Market's people!

Re: The Technical Analysis, Futures & Options Thread

Thanks, Altaf. I actually decided to check out material created by Zerodha (under the varsity tag). Spent some time on it yesterday and read couple of chapters. Its sets out the construct in brief. Will be very helpful if there is any other reading material/videos that you suggest we should consider.

I hope members use caution while trading in Future and Options.

SEBI has also been cautioning users to be careful while trading and not make it an addiction.

Thanks for responding!

Yes, Varsity is a very good place where the basics are laid out in Simple terms.
There are 3 aspects to learning to Trade

The first is to get a working knowledge of Technical Analysis.
The next step would be to start small, and make your mistakes that you are bound to do.
3rd step is to keep correcting your mistakes and coming up with a Trading Strategy with absolutely fixed Trading Rules, and a set of stocks that you want to run it on

The Final stage, and the MOST important stage would be o work on your Trading Discipline, AKA Trading Psychology.

Chart reading is not black and white, it is science + art combined so 2 people looking at the same chart might have different interpretation. So when learning it is better not get stuck to one version of analyzing the chart but to go through different styles and eventually come up with your own way of reading the chart based on what you learnt + observed. There are lot of you tube channels you can start from any where, but my suggestion is dont stick to one.
