Re: Covid-19 Vaccine | Registration & Experiences

My parents and grandmom took the vaccine in Mumbai yesterday, the experience with BMC run hospital was super smooth, very good arrangements made and systematic. No post vac effects reported. The co-win website was also smooth where we registered. I urge all eligible people to be promot and get vaccinated.

As such, the interaction is bound to produce good, bad and ugly, as well as simply sharing experience. The result is going to be mixed. It is kept in bounds, because this is not an unmoderated forum, but it is still going to be mixed. And we value it greatly, on human, informational, and other levels.

I see your point of view. Let me say this - sharing experiences is one thing, believing that the "internet" has all the information to form a definitive opinion on medical matters is different.

The human body and medical science has a lot of nuance to it, and a cursory internet reading isn't sufficient for anyone to understand it completely. It would make sense to trust a professional, or even better, a body of professionals whose job is to advise the public. Of course, one shouldn't blindly trust anything anyone says, and that's where the internet can help at times -- to iron out the edges. But claiming to have figured out a complex and everchanging medical issue such as the coronavirus just by browsing forums strikes as wildly dangerous to me for one's own good.

The difference between the human body and a car is roughly this - 2+2 is always 4 in a machine. It can be 3, 4, 5 or even 0 at times in a human body. It can be 2 today, 3 tomorrow. That's why there can be no 1 size fits all definitive answer, especially not by unqualified persons on the internet. Just my 2p.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine | Registration & Experiences

Any update from little birdies when the third wave will start? Office-going people in the manufacturing sector like us are already doing office >3 days a week. The risk of catching the virus is now sky-high.

We will take the vaccine as soon as it is introduced for 45 + no comorbidities. Unlike extended WFH or retired folks, we just don't have the luxury of debating at length the pros and cons. Being reasonably senior in our organizations, neither can we preach to our blue collar workforce how safe it is to come in for their shifts etc. etc., if WE don't turn up for work regularly!

A real conundrum!

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine | Registration & Experiences

My brother (59) who underwent CABG surgery at Apollo 16 months ago checked with his cardiologist and was told he should go ahead and take the vaccine at the nearest centre. So he walked in to a private hospital on 5th afternoon with his discharge summary and took the vaccine. Had some fever from mid morning the next day which continued till 7th morning. Nothing afterward and he feels fine.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine | Registration & Experiences

I am not able to find any concrete info regarding blood thinners.
My parents are taking Ecosprin tablets regularly (1 tab per day). Is there any specific guidelines before going for the vaccine? I read somewhere that it may be required to stop taking the medicine 2 days before the vaccination date. Is this required?

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine | Registration & Experiences

Got my parents vaccinated this morning. Had registered on the Arogya Setu app and took them to the BKC centre. Reached there at 8 am and they took them in at 8.20 am. All done and we were out of there by 9.15 am. Fantastic arrangements for seating, newspapers were handed out for everyone to read and everything was systematic and smooth. Very clean as well.

Highly recommend the BKC centre for Mumbai people.

Hey,

My dad is on the same tablet for quite some time and while he was told to go ahead and get himself jabbed, he did not take the tablet the day of the vaccination just as a precaution. He did not face any symptoms the next day and carried on taking his usual dose of tablets, he is also a diabetic.

Someone I know was told something similar by their cardiologist - they recommended stopping Ecosprin around 5 days before the vaccine.

They said Ecosprin is not a blood thinner in that specific sense referred to by the contra-indications recommendations, but to stop anyway 5 days before

Cheers

Totally agree and support your point of view.

The whole internet consultancy thing is made much, much more dangerous by the widespread human trait that prefers misinformation. Is this a curse of the whatsapp age? I guess not, I guess it was always so: just that there is a much greater choice of bullshit now, and it is always at our fingertips. Even when we don't go looking for it, other people send it to us.

My parents are on Ecospirin since a very long time. Ecospirin contains Acetylsalicylic Acid, also called as Aspirin. It prevents platelet aggregation and thrombus formation. It's generally given in low dose of 75mg per day and is required to be stopped for about a week prior to a major surgery. For my Dad's craniotomy for Sub-Dural hemorrhage, we couldn't stop it and had to resort to platelets. As far as it's interference with vaccination is concerned, I'm yet to see any paper that says to stop it's use before vaccination. Infact, it may have an effect on reducing myalgia and fever.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine | Registration & Experiences

I remember posting an update at around 4 pm today, but somehow it did not come here.

Re-posting again.

Alarmed by the increase in covid-19 cases pan India, i thought it is better to take the bite. Many of my friends already have taken it. So I scanned for slots using my PIN Code, and was dismayed to see no slots till the month-end in hospitals within a km's radius. I tried again, and luckily found slots in Deccan Hospital, Somajiguda for today and tomorrow. I immediately booked the morning slot for today.

Reached at 11 am with my PAN card that i had used while registering. Saw around 11 people in the hall. The coordinator told me that all need to wait for 30 to 40 minutes, as the govt website was showing the wrong vaccine name. From today, all hospitals were administering Covaxin, and it was Covid Shield till yesterday. But the system was still pointing to Covid Shield.

I chose to return home and call in an hour. When I did, I was asked to visit a.s.a.p. On reaching, I had to fill up a new 3-page form and sign it. The online registration done yesterday was no longer valid owing to the change in medicine. I could do that in 5 minutes and paid Rs 250. I was given the shot in another couple of minutes. No waiting at all. Then led to an AC ward and asked to relax for 30 minutes. Went home after that. Collected my receipt from the reception.

A couple of hours later, I got an SMS in Telugu stating that i could download my provisional certificate from a url. I did that. 2nd dose in 28 days at the same center.

Overall, very pleased with the service. Only hitch was the IT glitch that showed the wrong name of the vaccine. It is important to get the name right on the certificate, because that will be given in the 2nd shot. It is dangerous to mix both apparently.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I have no reaction--only very mild pain at the point of the injection.

Anyone still on the fence might consider hurrying up the decision. Ahmedabad hospitals are starting to face a shortage of vaccines - https://ahmedabadmirror.indiatimes.c...w/81421357.cms

There seem to be some rough bumps in the vaccine procurement and distribution.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine | Registration & Experiences

My parents got their first dose on the 2nd morning. Booking was done through the cowin website by me.

I did not receive any sms after they got their shots. But once i log into the cowin site, i can see their names as vaccinated for first dose and second dose as not scheduled.

Though i can see an option to download the vaccination certificate, nothing happens when i click the link.

Oh well

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine | Registration & Experiences

Today many new hospitals have been added to the list (in Bangalore). Yesterday when I checked there was only one nearby hospital listed and the next available slot was for April. Today, I see many other hospitals, and all of them have the slots available throughout the week. I managed to book a slot for my mom and aunt for this afternoon at a Cloud Nine hospital very close to my house.

Hi Jaguar,

Which Cloud Nine did you select? Does not mention proper location.

One says Cloud Nine Hospital (New)!. But where is it?
