Re: The IPO Thread - Discuss IPOs in India here

I recently applied for GR Infra and Clean Science IPOs. I got one allotment for GR Infra but did not get any for Clean Science. I have now applied for Tatva Chintan. Fingers crossed.

Nuvoco Vistas IPO, is it a good bet? While it does have a good market share in east India, wide range of distribution channels and strong brand image, the company also has high debt, a number of criminal cases against it and is quite highly priced.

Valuation guru, Ashwath Damodaran chimes in on the PayTM IPO.

Values PayTM in the range of $20billion in contrast to the valuation that PayTM seeks in the range of $30-35billion.

I applied for the Aditya Birla AMC IPO. The company's fundamentals seem sound. It has been doing well over the last couple of years. The IPO has been oversubscribed by a factor of 5.

I'm hoping to get an allotment.

Not a big fan of IPO from a person investment angle, especially when there is hype in the market (and it's not surprising that most IPO are launched during such times) Been there done that and came away with slightly burnt fingers

If you like an issue wait for it to list, you will not be at the mercy of the allotments which is not going to be much anyway to make a difference to your wealth. If it lists and tanks you know that you have dodged a dud. If it soars you can always buy on dips

Good quality stock this one. AMCs can easily scale their revenues and profits, without incurring incremental higher expenditure. That's why AMCs in listed space have eye-popping profit margins.

I was not allotted any shares during the IPO. I was a little disappointed at first but it turns out that was not such a bad thing after all. The stock had a very flat opening after it was listed. Its price has continued to drop over the last 2 days.

I am relatively new to the stock market. But this has taught me a lesson or two about not getting sucked into the hype of IPOs.

Have the crossed the peak in the IPO party?

PayTM is now trading at a discount of 25% from its offer price.

I daresay No. While it's not great news for investors to see such a dip in their investment right away, what's important is the long term outlook. The GMP was hovering about at a 7% discount level but listing happened lower. Still I for one think PayTM is a sound company with a strong business model. If the likes of Zomato or Nykaa could list at premium, don't see why PayTM should be any different.

Will hold in the medium term and see if it recovers. Word is there will be some support at 1200 levels.

Re: Do you play the stock market

I too felt they had a better revenue model and it will hold the price. I did not apply for the IPO.

Have picked up a couple of shares at 1650. I dont mind waiting picking up a few more at even lower valuations.

Re: Do you play the stock market

I feel that everyone should be a lot more cautious with this Paytm IPO. There are two things that concerns me - a) the valuation (even after the listing day correction); and b) most importantly, the smart money is jumping ship - all the existing investors have significantly exited the company. Berkshire for instance has exited 100%. Maybe they know something that we don't. This is quite different from say Zomato, where existing investors have stayed on in the company (or at best made small exits), thus indicating that they believe in the future potential and are willing to have skin in the game.

Created dual History. Biggest IPO of Indian history and also hit LC on listing day itself.

Investors will generally like to exit or cash up on their investment by selling their stake or the IPO route. Warren Buffett is holding record cash reserve in the hopes that there will be an opportunity to buy good potential companies at low valuation. Maybe the same with Paytm or he feels there is no growth in terms of value currently at these levels.

Re: Do you play the stock market

To be honest I don't see very much value in Paytm. They have the brand but then couldn't dominate in any of their businesses. I for one stopped using paytm for some time. There are no offers or cashbacks nowadays. And there are many better players. Paytm do not have any USP.

I have gold bought through them which is a very easy and unique, five years back. Now all their competitors give you the same.

And their asking price was so high with valuations comparable to "65% of Axis Bank, 40% of Kotak Bank, 30% of ICICI Bank and 20% of HDFC Bank, as per the linked report.

Link

Macquarie Research says the stock value could be 1200. I think even this is also very high. Link

Feel sorry for the small investors who got trapped buying at issue price. Vijay sharma was weeping on TV after the poor listing. Serves him right for the greed.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Previous market crash in 2007-08 was led by R Power IPO listing. A much hyped R Power share was listed at a price lower than offer price. R Power tried to make it up by offering some bonus(?) shares to the IPO subscribers. However nothing worked and R Power price steadily decreased.
To the valued Stock Market experts here, do you see any such signs similar to what was there in 2007-08? Can PayTM listing at a lower price be a trigger ?

Thanks
